Off to Levi in Finland with Inghams flying with Monach and have always hired gear out there but have bought my own gear this year. Rang inghams today to book the snowboard carriage and they told me that you can only take the snowboard in the board bag no bindings boots or clothes they have to go in the suitcase or hand luggage. Is this right or can you get away with it.
Thanks. |

Yeah, whatever! That's just the corporate line. Some companies say that you can only take one board, or that if you take two boards in a bag it counts as two lots of excess baggage.
I've always packed boards, bindings, helmets and wrapped the whole lot in clothing and protective gear, they're not going to ask you to open it and prove it. I wouldn't worry about it.
Ignorance has saved me paying extra for my board bag seven trips in a row. I never pre-book it in, and I've yet to pay. I'm wondering if this year will be the first.
Andy
P.S. Don't take my advice, I'm clearly an idiot |

Everywhere I've been boots have been classed as ski/board equipment and as such definately allowed in the board bag.
Was told last year on the way to Canada that only board and boots were allowed but the bag was put through the outsize luggage without any serious checks other than the usual security.
As long as you don't take the piss with the weight there should be no problem. |

across Thursday and Friday managed to check in snowboards, boots, helmets and bits with Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic and ANA all as part of the "free" allowance. The snowboard bags weighed 10kg for one and 14kg the other.
As was said, don't take the pee with weight (that goes for your other luggage too). |

| Just back from Tignes this weekend and flew into and out of Grenoble with Monarch. I had 2 boards bindings and my boots in my board bag and had no probs. But I did check beforehand that I'd got an inclusion for a board allowance |

So did monarch check your bag, or just let it through?
I'm off to Val Thorens (geneva) with Monarch with Inghams, and they said the same thing.
Our last trip to Kaprun in Austria we just put 2 boards, both boots, and some small bits, all in the 1 bag, and it was fine.
(with thomas cook).
Is monarch ok with this? (from stansted) |

No they just asked me if I had boots in my snowboard bag (which according to Inghams/Monarch T&C is a no no),I put on my most truthful face said "NO" and was told to take my board bag to oversize luggage.
I just had Board/Bindings/Boots a helmets and a few bits and pieces in mine but a mate had his boardbag stuffed full with"everything" and they didn't bat an eyelid. |

Easyjet costs £16.50 each way for sports equipment. You need to pre book it.
Has anyone had any success with putting 2 boards in one bag? |

We just got back from Breckenridge flying with BA. All board bags travelled free. My friend had 3 boards in his bag plus bindings and boots. It was a scheduled flight though and I think they're a bit more lenient.
A couple of years ago we flew into Geneve with Jet2 and had to pay £15 each way for 'outsize'/sports luggage. The same person had 4 boards in his bag this time plus boots and bindings and still got away with paying for just the 1 board.
I usually put my boots and helmet in my bag. And stuff my boots with socks.
On our way back from Breck my missis' board bag was opened by US security (she had one of those special locks that allows airport security to open the bag without breaking the lock). They left a little note/flyer in her bag explaining that they'd opened it under anti-terrorism laws!! |

Trans Atlantic "ski" equipment carriage is free, European isn't.
This Monarch stance over boots is odd, every airline I've used considers boots and skis as "ski equipment", by default snowboards are considered the same.
The only luggage issue I've encountered was at Chambery where they have banned helmets and boots from hand luggage. This may be a Europe thing but wasn't an issue at Manchester. |

I'm also takin my stuff for the first time, i bought my burton 'coffin bag' and i'm all ready with my new board blah blah blah, flyin on thomas cook, ...but how do you get it over for free??
When booking the holiday(havent yet) they ask for £15 snowboard carriage, and it's only up to 10kg!!! so how the hell do you get all your stuff in for under 10kg?!?
I'm stupid i know and i'm probably missing something really simple but please explain...
