its around 23kg -- go on the website of the plane company (ie easy jet, ba) and look at the oversized baggage info

hope it helps

thread revival!

because it's now 2012 and I've still never paid for my board bag to travel with me and it's been another 5 trips Smile will this be the year?

my advice, never ever book your board bag in advance

So Andy are you using airlines that do have a separate charge for sports equipment like Snowboard etc, but not bothering to pay for the sports stuff, then just turning up to the Airport and sticking it through the over sized baggage area after checking in your clothes bag and checking in and totally getting away with the sports equipment charge ?

Sounds unlikely. If you don't check your bag in, it won't have the barcoded airline transit tag, so the outsize baggage check-in wouldn't take it.

I'm flying with Thomson 2 weeks today to France and I plan on rocking up with my hold baggage and my board bag and just see what happens.

Getting there nice and early so hopefully worst case scenario is I have to pay £30 'sports equipment' charge and that's it.

Yeah definitely not possible, you cant put a bag into oversize luggage that doesn't have an oversize luggage tag on it, they wont take it.

Does he not mean Pre-book as in before you even get to the airport though, like on the internet.

Say 5 years or more ago, travelling on a package deal (Thomson/Neilson etc) you could get away with not booking it but not now. These days I think you probably are referring to travelling with BA/Swiss or any other airline that takes board bags for free. Technically you don't need to book in advance/pay extra with them for sports equipment.

If you rock up with a board bag to the the check in for Easyjet/Ryanair/Jet2/Thomson etc you won't get the bag on the plane unless you have either paid for it at the time of booking or stump up the higher fee at the airport or prepare to hire gear when you get there....
