Well I just got back from 3 days on my banana in Chamonix so thought I would put down my thoughts for what it's worth.

I really enjoyed riding the banana, the 3 days I had in cham I had pretty much all conditions from powder on the first day, to crust, pistes, ice and towards the end slush... oh and a couple of rocks.

I am 5'11 and weigh about 13 stone, I used to have a 161 Burton Air, but got the 156. In Powder it rode pretty well, I set my stance back a bit and I didn't really have to work that hard compared to my old board. Being a true twin it was nice being able to ride switch in the pow without any ill effects.

On the piste and ice it felt very comfortable, I never felt like it was going to wash out and the MTX and shorter board made carving really easy. I also spent far longer than I ever have riding flats and it was very easy to turn and generally cruise along. Buttering was stupidly simple due to the flex and the camber.

On the slush it ran really well, it kind of cruised through with ease and was generally a joy to ride. I hit a couple of kickers and it had good pop and was far happier than I was spinning. I've heard that they can be soft on landing but clearly these people must be getting far bigger air than I, as I didn't notice.

The park wasn't built yet so I haven't had the chance to try it there, but no doubt I will in Jan.

Overall I am very happy I bought it and it lived up to all I expected... it may be nothing to do with any of the tech and all in my mind... but it worked and that's all that really mattered to me.

I'm still making my mind up about mine. I don't really feel any diffence with the banana. It is a fun snowboard to ride and yeah buttering is so easy.

Just back from Zell am See / Kaprun with my Gnu Street (skate banana in drag?)

I have to say the best feature for me was the magnetraction. On the late afternoon scrape down from the glacier on the artificial ice, I was able to retain a degree of composure, whereas before, I have really lost style marks on the clean icy parts! Also, this is on slightly detuned edges.

On the freestyle front, the board performed really well at nose presses and butters. A shoulder still recovering from surgery meant that I had to mostly resist even my modest jibbing, but a play on an easy box revealed that it acts just like a normal board on boardslides.

Didn't have to work too hard in the powder (centered stance), which was a surprise.

Overall, loved it. Bring on Laax in 4 weeks!

Verdict - turning ice into powder is, of course, cattle excrement. BUT there is substance to the hype and I couldn't really find a downside Surprised .

The most fun and versatile board I've ever ridden. Simple.

Just back from austria with my SB, great all round board that makes things easy and puts a big grin on your face! I esp love the mag-traction, handles on rails, don't think i could go back to a board without it now.

Rode it against my mates goliath, great board too, but we both preferred the SB.

I have a 56 Banana, a 55 Danny Kass BTX, a 57 Phoenix BTX, and they all ride very differently.

The banana has far more rocker than the other 2, which is very evident if you put them side by side, it also has more prominent Magne Traction.

It is a great fun board, up their with my Evil Twin for jibbing around on, but much better over kickers. Stable over jumps and jibs, and general hooning around, and quick edge to edge - However it is too loose for my liking when going at full speed round the mountain, mainly because of the more pronounced rocker. It works a treat in the pow too.

The Phoenix is a completely different beast, much stiffer, with less Magne and far less rocker, and a much larger radius side cut means it is a great all mountain stick, every bit as stable as my old TRice 58, but with the added forgiveness that BTX offers - has a lot of pop too, but because of the sidecut, whilst great for big carves, it is not so quick edge to edge which can be annoying - basically a great freeride machine, and awesome i the pow.

Finally the Danny Kass - this is pretty much a stiffer Banana, with similar magne and a bit less rocker - this is my favorite board of the lot, as fun as the Banana, but as stable as the Lynn, whilst still being quick edge to edge - awesome off of the kickers, just a great board all over the muntain, and of course killer in the pipe

What a lot of people dont realise is that there is a pretty big range of variation in the amounts of Rocker and Magne on different Lib/Gnu boards - and to further complicate matters they are bringing out a double banana camber design next year! This is why you see many review of the Banana, which, like me find it a bit loose at speed, where as the Lib/Gnus that are designed for bigger all mountain riding do not suffer this problem because the rocker is altered to work better in these conditions.

I also have a 62 K2 Gyrator, which has a crazy amount of rocker that makes the skate banana look flat in comparison, but is of a totally different design - this stick is the best Pow board i have ever ridden, but is also perfectly useable on the rest of the hill.

In addition i have a Burton Hero 58, which pretty much rides the same as the Banana, but doesnt feel quite as solid, and is not great in choppy snow - and i cant say the scoop tech is noticable, or anything like as good as Bataleons TBT.

A couple of pics i managed to find. Thumbs Up

magne traction is to do with the edge and banana tech is to do with the camber - am quite sure the lib tech website will explain it - failing that google will help you

Found this.....

Code:
MAGNE-TRACTION:
Replaces “two contact point” ski theory. Conventional skis and snowboards have two contact points. Our Magne-Traction boards have seven! Seven is more than two. With Magne-Traction, when your two outside contact points lose grip, you’ve still got five more to take over. You won’t fall as much. Rides like a skateboard. Control and turn initiation come from under your feet, not a foot and a half to either side of your feet. Better edge hold. Climbs icy pipes! Turns ice into powder! Skate Bananas, Cygnus X1, Dark Series, Travis, Phoenix, TRS MTX, TRS BTX, MC Kink, Box Scratcher, Snowskate, Skunk Apes, Mullets.

Quote:
BANANA TECHNOLOGY:
Because you are not going skiing. Banana Technology replaces camber with rocker “banana” between your feet. More control, more pop, catchfree. Banana Technology is better everywhere! Skate Bananas, Cygnus X1, Dark Series, Travis, Phoenix (”Blonde” & “LANDO”), TRS, MC Kink, Box Scratcher, Skunk Apes, Mullets, Snowskate.

A SNOWBOARD IS NOT A SKI.
BANANA TECHNOLOGY WITH MAGNE-TRACTION IS SNOWBOARD GEOMETRY.
