Northwave Legend SL boots
Flex rating of around 7
I got these boots this year and have ridden them several times. I find they are very comfortable for all day use and are a lot more comfortable than my old Burton Ions.
The liner is heat mouldable and this enhances the comfort of the fit which for me is the most important aspect for me as i like to ride the first and last lifts.
They also have air cushions in the heel which dampen the big stomps and also look great.
I must say it took me ages to get to grips with the single lace system and if given the choice i would probably go for laced model as its a bit easier in my opinion to manage.
TSA rated this boot as one of the best they had demoed pre -season, they stated;
Quote:
The Legend was one of the most popular boots on the board test this year. By combining rock solid performance with one of the most comfortable fits available, it very quickly became the boot to ride. Aimed at riders who want a boot that performs at the highest levels but still want a user friendly and relatively smooth ride, the Legend is the ideal boot for those riders that want to ride from first lift till last and never feel compromised by their equipment. The Legend utilises Northwave’s advanced SuperLace II closure system to give one of the most secure fits with minimum effort. Combine this with the heat mouldable Stroble liner and it’s easy to see why the Legend got the reviews it did.
I managed to get these boots through a shop on ebay and offered my best offer of £110 and it got accepted so there are bargains out there! (i will post the shops link below!)
The specs are below!
The Boots: Northwave are one of the best known and well respected Snowboard boot manufacturers in the business. The Northwave Legend SL is a best seller and a must have. This all mountain snowboard boot is constructed for comfort and is designed to support entry to pro level snowboarders. The technology, style, and low price makes this boot one of the best buys of the winter season. . Comes in traditional and our SL lacing system.
SPECS:
Sole: airshock-arch support-rubber-EVA Independent flex zones for the ultimate in boot-binding interface. Its complex 7-piece construction is the result of countless on hill tests. Natural rubber, high-tech EVA, arch support inserts, and innovative lasting form are the signature characteristics of the seventh generation of Northwave soles.
Liner: Construction and Materials: TF 2 Liner with Stroble construction combined with EVA and easier flexing IHS for more flex without a seam under foot. Heat moldable Fit: Thermo-Fit Foam with target fit zones that can be catalyzed with heat to fit any foot. Speed Lace: The new liner lace lock is built with a quick release system to ensure efficiency and reduce lace slippage. Lace slides through a metal ring to improve the closure. Web System: Asymmetric and supportive structure built onto the liner to distribute pressure from highback to rest of liner. Easy Flex Window: Strategically placed supportive foam that gives enough freedom and support and avoids calf bite. Heel Pocket: SD Anatomical Heel Pocket uses dual density foam to lock heel down. Footbeds: S2
Heel Retention System: A complete wrap of the ankle… anchored to the heel of the boot laces run through a brass or nylon loop to wrap around the heel to lock the ankle in place.
Super Lace System (SL): Double zone closure: Two zone speed lace system Our SL2 lacing system takes it to a whole other level by providing double zone lacing to deliver maximum fit and comfort. Individual laces are used to isolate the tightness of your boots in your toe and calf area. By simply pulling on the strings, the double action lace occurs quick and painless, without any confusion. Spinners The new SL lacing system is now designed with spinners to makes lacing even more efficient than before. Our patented design is constructed to actually spin while the lace tightens to eliminate lace friction and increase the ease of the lace through loops. [img][/img][u]
i would give these boots 8.5 out of 10. |

A very nice boot indeed,if you feel however that they are too stiff then the Freedom SL's are a top choice!
i myself opted for the Freedom SL's and they rule,i originally went to the shop to buy a set of 32 Lashed, but found that my feet werent as wide as i originally thought,so came away with these. The fit is unreal (even better than my last set of boots which were salomon) and they look sweet!
Just the same as the legends but a little bit softer for more comfort in the park etc,but will still shred the whole hill perfectly. |

| Really a very nice boot the TF3 Liner is heat moldable for the ideal fit, features a single pull lace, and has a upper strap for a secure feel around your leg I think this is the most versatile boot for advanced riders. |

Not quite sure what you mean 'Single Lace' - I have these boots, in the 08/09 model and they have two separate zones for tightening using two different 'laces'.
For me:
Pros:
Very comfortable
Relatively easy to do up
Good grip when off the board
Not too heavy
Cons:
Lace 'holders' on the mens boots broke easily & never seem to keep the handles in
Lace 'holders' on the womens are much better, as they just clip onto the side of the boot
Too flexible for just using on piste (in my opinion)
lace system works itself loose after the first couple of runs - I always find myself having to do them up again, but then they stay done for the whole day.
'Squigy' feel to them (this might account for the super comfort!
Verdict:
Good boot but the speedlacing isn't anything to write home about - normal laces are just as fast and don't need adjusting after the first couple of runs. Super comfort. I'd probably suggest trying a different lacing system to a friend, including traditional. |

Chaski, i know what you mean about the laces working loose after a while, but i find that its only due to the way you flex as your walking or when your on the board, i have put mine on in the carpark and by the time i get to the gondala they are slightly on the loose side, once you tighten them up though as you said they stay tight for the whole day, its only because they need to work out where they need to be tight and stuff, try putting them on, walking around for a bit, or doing a run then when you hit the bottom try them again, you should see a difference, i do anyway |

| My first boots were sl legends, really liked the lacing system for ease of use, however they did work lose quite quickly, my only real gripe would be the weight and the fact mine looked battered after very little use |
