My friend is working in in Fernie in the nonstop lodge restaurant this year (i got a job that ties me to a desk in the uk this year, eugh) but i'm going to be heading through fernie for a few days in Feb, can't wait!
Anyway, she says she has good hours and the tipping is amazing (like in America) so if any of you are keen to work there next season why not check them out, better than being a lifty in the cold! http://www.nonstopski.com/blog/?s=red+t ... =0[/quote]
I ate there last year and it was one of our nicest meals we had and the staff seemed really relaxed which is a bonus! I wouldn't mind working there, don't think its too far from 29ft house and it would free up loads of time for boarding!
Have now told all my family & friends that we're doing one but can't tell work until about Aug! Only 8 months and 20days to go!!! |

Im thinking of going to Banff in Nov 2009- May 2010.... ive never done a season ANYWHERE before so im slightly nervous about booking it!
I have heard of companies like Bunac, Oyster etc.. but they seem to be charging alot of £ just to sort the job , flights and visa out for you is this worth it? or can i easily do it myself?
How hard is it to find a job out there and accomodation? ANd how do i do this!!!
ANY help or advice would really be apreciated!!
Thanks

| Hey Jess, you HAVE to have a visa to work in Canada - you dont have to have the whole caboodle (flights, sort job etc) from bunac but you do have to get a visa through them. |

You need to apply to BUNAC asap to get a visa for next season. Last year they ran out mid Feb for visas for the following year and this year they are going quickly.
A normal working visa costs £205 (with no extra faff!).
In terms of finding work; it is very important to apply ahead of time. Perhaps at the end of this season and then again at the beginning of the next, this way the employers will know that you are keen.
In terms of how difficult will it be to get a job and accommodation? Really it depends on where you want to go - the bigger more 'touristy' resorts are going to be hard to find accommodation (Whistler and Banff etc) and without accommodation you are less likely to find work. The employers like to know that you will be sticking around for the full season.
What kind of work do you want to do?
Bar? Hotel? Instruct? Shop? |

Booked return as Bunac says you must have proof of return flight, we're gonna have to change the return date once we're there as you can't book a return flight 12 months after your outbound i.e. 10th Oct 09-9th Oct 2010. If you book in Oct & fly in Oct your fine but we wanted to get everything sorted so we could start saving for when we get there.
Flights aren't always cheaper when you book late, just had a look at flights now to Calgary flying at the end of the month and it still costs £530 with BA. |

| Right, just got back from isola 2000 and the powder was immense. I have never seen anything like it. I'm commiting to a season now and after reading this thread and doing a little research Fernie looks awesome. Am i too late to apply with BUNAC? |

| Bunac's still accepting applications, you can do it online & it only takes about 10 minutes but you need £200 to pay for the application. |

| Great, is it only the applications that they are restricted to or is there a possibility they will reject me further down the line having run out of visa's? |

| Yup, 8 months and counting mate!! We explained to Rachel at 29ft that we'd be needing digs from the beginning of Oct & she said that was cool so we're pretty much moving in as soon as we land except for the first couple of days cause we'll need to get our SIN number sorted in Calgary before heading to Fernie around 13th Oct. |
