We just got back from Lake Louise. It was outstanding; great powder days and although it was Christmas it didn't seem busy or crowded (but it was I'm told).

Whistler is the Holy Grail of Canadian skiing/boarding --but only when the conditions are great.
I personally don't enjoy 'spring like' conditions in the middle of January! That said, the BC or Alberta interior is much better--give SUN PEAKS a go. You won't be sorry.

Has anyone started looking at flights for next season yet? BA are doing flights from Heathrow to Calgary for £511 return which is pretty good.

Last time we flew we went through Canadian Affair and ended up flying with Monarch, turned out to be a nightmare. We booked extra legroom there and back, got it on the way there but on the way back about 30 other couples had also booked extra leg room. We were all put at the back of the plane with no apology or offer for refund which is why I'm looking at BA!

Does anyone know if BA have sales throughout the year?

I'm in Fernie at the moment. It snowed nearly 35cm last week over night, but then it poured rain. We had a weather warning the whole week. Alot of the snow was washed away on the lower slopes which makes it icey as hell at the moment. If you're expecting 'legendary' powder, you'll have to wait a few weeks i think because no snow is forecast anytime soon.

Whistler seems to have had more snow this year Sad

Having said that, the bowls in Fernie are epic and ive been completely blown away by the terrain and how there is literally no one on the slopes. Ive been here since the season started and have yet to have queued for a lift.

Budgeting for about £200 a month for food and going out but I haven't included a lift pass as I'm hoping to get a job on the hill.

Wow, everyone's so organised! I've paid for my bunac thingy and have the forms to fill in so I'll get that done in the next few weeks. Anyone know how recent a 'recent police check' needs to be?

And is anyone else just planning on getting on a plane and hoping for the best? I kinda just want to see where I end up rather than making any real plans

The only reason we've booked our digs now is cause I figured we'd be earning more money over here than over there and it means all the money we'll be earning can go on food & beer.

We're not too sure either what we're gonna do once the season's ended so it means we can save a little too to help pay for the road trips we're probably gonna end up doing! Loads of people do what your planning Kat, its definately makes things loads more exciting!

We're not sorting our Bunac stuff out just yet, other half's gotta get his passport renewed before we send off our visa app, not too sure how recent your check will have to be tho.

Hi All,
1 year working visa applied for in Ireland , don't see a problem getting it. Hitting Ferine or Whistler November 09.I've made my way through the 101 pages of the Whistler tread , feel like i know everone over there now!!Took me a while to get through it but well worth it.I suppose we will be facing the same issues from here on !!

No matter where i go i'll be working to support myself through the season , so jobs that give most time on the mountion and nice perks are what i'll be looking for.

Hey Brocksta,

I thinking of going Fernie next season. In switzerland at the moment, but really wanna go North America. And Fernie seems to be the best bet for powder.

Thinking 29feet. What about you?

Hey guys, new member here.

I've been wanting to learn how to snowboard for years now and i've decided i want to do it right so i'm looking to do a full season in fernie the 09/10 season.

Been looking at 29feet for accommodation and if all goes to plan i will be booking next month.

What do you guys think of Fernie as a place to learn for a newbie? I've been saving up for a long, long time so i really want to make the right choice of resorts.

Cheers,
Dave.

Fernie is where my heart is, every time! I did a nonstop course and i read what you guys said about them before; you're right 3grand for 3 weeks was a lot but so totally worth it and staying out there and working was the best thing i ever did! Never went to london for one of their open previews but after going away with them i can vouch for them being organised and well run. I reccommend it to anyone!

FERNIE: for a beginner; there isn't tons of beginner terrain but once you have passed that initial stage then there's so much to cover! Are you gonna get lessons?

My friend is working in in Fernie in the nonstop lodge restaurant this year (i got a job that ties me to a desk in the uk this year, eugh) but i'm going to be heading through fernie for a few days in Feb, can't wait!

Anyway, she says she has good hours and the tipping is amazing (like in America) so if any of you are keen to work there next season why not check them out, better than being a lifty in the cold! http://www.nonstopski.com/blog/?s=red+t ... =0&y=0
