Hey mrlizard, as far as I know, a tourist visa lasts for 6 months but I'm not sure about crossing into the states,

Cheers for that, 6 months should do it.... if we get a US tourist visa when crossing the border that should satisfy my needs
You've been to Fernie before... where did you stay? Are there plenty of accom options? I think we are going to get a car when we get there, so we can go to the other resorts on the RCR pass... think this a good idea?
Next decision to make is when to go... i was thinking mid Dec to maximise time there...

It all depends on what type of accomdation your looking for, I stayed at the Raging Elk Hostel with my boyfriend for 10 days, it was a great laugh and we were lucky enough to get one of their private rooms with private bathroom, the whole place has a great vibe and everyone was so friendly.
There's also the Samesun hostel which we considered but in the end we decided on the Elk.
If your not after budget digs there was lots of nice looking hotels, b&b's in the town but the best thing I can recommend is that you do a search for places to stay and spend a while just reading up.
I did our holiday myself (not so keen on tour operators & saved myself nearly £300!) it took alot of work but it was well worth it!
We didn't go to any of the other mountains under the RCR pass cause of time & I'm not sure if there's buses from Fernie but the other guys who've done seasons there might know.
If your not planning on working Dec would probably be a good time to go as long as you've got digs sorted otherwise alot of people get there Nov.
Hope this helps! |

Does anyone know if I have to have a return flight to get my Canada work visa?...... kinda don't want to plan the whole going home bit!!
I was thinking about getting a car or van too if I could afford it so I can move about a bit |

As far as I’m aware you do need to book your flight home. Well that’s if your from the UK and going with Bunac. Bunac will not issue the work authorisation to you until they have seen proof of a flight out of North America. 99% of the time it’s cheaper to book a return though.
I’m thinking of getting a car too, if I can ever figure out Canadian licence rules |

cheers for that snofairy, some good info!
I've been looking around the web and if you try hard enough there is a bit about, some of its a bit pricey though, i like the sound of the Fernie Hotel... just a shame you have to book for the whole season.
Right, next question
Season passes - the RCR pass is listed as CAN$1369 at the moment... does anyone know what the early bird discount amounts to??

Im gonna be in Fernie for 09/10 im also working towards my snowboard instructor qualification so hoping to do it through Bunac.
I was at the nonstop presentation in London the other day and out of all the places on offer Fernie looks amazing (better than Whistler in my oppinion) so I guess I'll see some of you out there. |

tee84, do I need a different license out there then?
I'm getting really excited now! Got a hell of a wait though I'm going to a Bunac presentation on Thursday so let me know if there's anything you want me to ask them... |

im staying at the fernie this season, struck me as an absolute bargain. £214 a month... probably hasnt got any heating but.... its above a pub so beer coats all round!
season pass was just over £500 for the RCR super pass. think i got it in april. tbh, they dont cost that much more if you wait until the october pass sale. was a bit annoyed about that.
got my flights at the same time with aircanada who wer cheapest. i'd recommend getting a credit card sorted for your flights as fk knows what theyre gonna be like when it comes to going if you book your flights well in advance! |

A touritst visa for Canada lasts 6 months, or thats what I have been told by BUNAC - after 6 months you have to get a work visa or something.
I've just signed up for the Nonstop 2week Snow Safari in Jan!! I'm so excited! Anyone else out there doing something similar? We go on a road trip to Fernie, Red Mt, Whitewater (always wanted to go and never been) and my brain escapes me of the other resort. Although its not cheap I figured i couldnt do it for much less on my own, plus this way I dont have to organise anything... and it will give me a better idea of where's good to spend my season next year. Plus we get a guide for all the resorts to show us the sweet off piste powder spots!
If anyone is keen for it, check out their website, book on and message me as at the moment I feel like a complete loner!! |

all brits are allowed into canada for 6 months without having to get a visa b4. this will be the tourist visa and, if you staying for more than 6 months you can renew it just by hopping into the US for a day and coming back which gives you another 6 months (think thats right).
you will need a work visa if your heaidng out to work, you cant work oon the free tourist visa thing. |

Hi all,
Im looking to do the 09/10 season. Originally i was going to do Whistler but ive read good things about Fernie.
It seems a more quieter and laid back town compared to Whistler. Is it still ok to get a job though?
Im just looking to work in a shop or something at the weekend.
What is everyone doing about accommodation? Are there any sites similar to Seasonit? |
