I'm sure we'll have some long winded Terms & Conditions up here, but here are my simple rules for using this forum.

1. No personal attacks.
2. No spam.
3. No filth.
4. Mind your language.
5. Be excellent to each other!

1. No personal attacks
Okay, we don't all like each other, but personal attacks will not be tolerated, whether the individual is a user of the forum or not. Such posts will be heavily moderated or simply deleted. If you have an issue with somebody, then take it up with them personally. If you want to bring it here, then keep to the facts and make sure you have them straight. You'll only look stupid infront of everybody if you get them wrong.

2. No spam
We will not tolerate commercial advertisements on these forums. If you're a long standing contributor to the forum then, naturally, people will be happy for you to push you wares within reason. If you're not sure, check with us first, but the best way is to clearly state that you're selling something and hope people don't mind. Please notify any Admin/Moderators of spam.

3. No filth
The web is a great place for porn, I'm led to believe. However, there's no place for it here. We have very young users who should not be subjected to it and as the forum is accessed heavily in the workplace, you could be risking people's jobs. Web links to external sites with dubious content, should be clearly labelled with a warning. Please notify any Admin/Moderators of filth, so they can save it to their hard drives before taking further action.

4. Mind Your Language
I'm not against swearing at all, feck me no! But there are some real good reasons why you shouldn't swear on the forum. Our younger readers for one, but also the fact that many work firewalls will block pages with too many "questionable" words and you'd run the risk of making the forum inaccessible from work. There are filters in place for most of the worst words.

5. Be excellent to each other

Remember, the forum is just that, a forum for open speech. Also remember that what you're saying is down in bits and bytes for posterity. We have your email address, we know your IP address and where you're posting from. If a user's posts become intolerable they will simply be banned from using the forum, whether they're a member of SCUK or not.

This is a nice place, so as Bill and Ted once said... "Be excellent to each other".

Cheers
Dunx

Dunx any chance of some general rules for the wanted/for sale forum?

I've used this a few times and its been excellent so far but it seems to offer little protection for buyers and sellers. I'm a member of a couple of different interest forums and they all have good classifieds sections and work by having good solid rules. For example a price must be stated when a for sale advert is placed. No links to ebay auctions until 12 hours before they finish. Nothing can be sold for above the rrp of an item.

Here are a couple of links for wanted/for sale rules from other forums I use just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

http://www.singletrackworld.com/forums/classified-rules/

I understand the for sale forum on SCUK isn't as fast moving as these two other forums but I'm sure we can take good points from both to protect buyers and sellers on here.

Thanks for taking the time to have a read of this.
