Hello to everyone,
I'm new on here and new to snowboarding. I've done a few days in Pas De la Casa and Obersdorf and a week in Val Thorens. Can make it down the mountain without falling over, mostly blues and the odd red.
Val Thorens burnt my pockets last year, I heard austria was a bit cheaper, so have booked in for Kitzbuhel in the 2nd week in March, staying in Kirchberg. Doing a road trip as I hate transfer buses!
Whats the consensus on Kitzbuhel, any recommendations? I thought Kirchberg would be good midway between westendorf and kitzbuhel, I read in a snowboading guide that both were really good for boarding, would be great to hear some opinions.
Cheers

Hi Phil,
I have booked to go on the 6th, been looking at the webcams everyday (sad I know) and the snow forcasts have been fantastic. People warned me about it being low altitude and that it sometimes has a lack of snow but having looked online the last two seasons have been great in March and this year looks like it will be better still. I cant wait to go myself tbh.

| Really good resort with lots of wide cruising blue and red runs. There are steeper black runs if you feel up to it by the end of the week. Lively nightlife as well, all round brilliant resort. You will have an awesome time. |

yeah been a few times. Off again on the 19th Feb.
Great all round place and the snow is looking good this year.
Kitzbuhel has 2 main areas, The Horn and Hahnenkamm.
The Horn may be a smallish area but it's perfect for snowboarding and where you should spend most days. The Hahnenkamm side is much bigger and great if there has been a fresh dump of snow.
The town is great but a little bit $$$ for booze.
O'Flanningans is a good bet for early drinks and where most of the Brits drink.
The Londoner pub is worth checking out just to witness the rich austrian kids rocking to euro pop. Drinks are $$ in here.
Highways bar is best bet for late drinks and prob where most people end up. |

Kitz is sick, Defo hit Flanny's, and SIGI's. Londoners ok for a giggle but its always rammed and very pricey.
Highways is good and have good live bands most weeks. do not leave without eating at La fonda, its realy close to highways and londoner.
As for the mountain, the horn is limited in size, but if the snow is good then theres an ok park there, and good off piste oppertunitys of the back 'rain tal'. Nice for a lazy drinking gluhwien day.
For the best pow in the area if your lucky with the weather head to pass turn, it is sick! Westend dorf is also covered if you get the salzburg super pass. Bout half hour away from Kirchberg if i remember rightly!
Loads of fun stuff to do, we went over the 3s Cable car for the best piste runs...
Enjoy! |

I'm staying at Jagerwirt hotel and I think SIGI's is part of it? Just found out that the footy has been moved back 24hrs to the day I get to resort so going to have to rush around to try and find the match on somewhere? Assume SIGI's will show it though?
3 weeks tomorrow, I cant wait. |

Yeah sigi's is a sports bar and attached to the jagerwirt it shows all football matches, run by a guy called Raf. There will also be a crazy fruit working there called Ben - both legends, but you will learn this in a few weeks!
Enjoy. |

as above.. Kitz is very good town, quite up-market, nice shops/restaurants etc Kirchberg a bit more down-to-earth. Have to say.. had an awesome latenight in the Kircberg girlie bar there.... millions times better than the equivalent place in Kitzbuel .
oh Slopes are pretty good too |

Got back from Kitz last night - another wicked trip.
Weather wise we had everything, some powder days, some bluebirds and a couple of overcast days.
Pass Thurn is where it is at this year. The park up there is in good nick after the sick trick tour last week. It's much easier to get the bus from Kitz in the morning and it gives you an extra 30min kip
Best powder I had was at Raintal at the back of the Horn - its amazing how few people make it up there so you can still get fresh lines well into the afternoon. The park at the Horn is pretty lame this year, just a small mini-park really.
Hannenkamm and Pengelstein were far too busy so I would swerve them if you can.
Nightlife was good esp fri, sat and sundays as thats when all the weekenders come into town. Wicked breaks night in Highways on a friday that you should check out.
On my last day I had a bad fall on the wallride at the pass thurn park. Snowmobile had to get me off the mountain because I couldn't walk but luckily I didn't break the ankle only twisted it. In the process of claiming back with my SCUK insurance so hopefully it won't be to much of a headache. |

Sounds great mate, I wont be doing much in the park as just starting with the freestyle (Snowboarded 10 years though!!!) so the Horn park will prob be fine for me. When you say the other side is busy, how busy do you mean? My other half only learnt last year so she will panic if it's manic on the slopes. As for Pass Thrun, would you say go there just for the park or is it good anyway? Also what about Jochburg is it worth going up top and getting the cable accross?
Cheers |
