Any one got any early dreams, to go, I should have gone this year but funds were running low so i had to cancell my visa Crying or Very sad , so I am going next year if this pesky down turn dos'nt get in the way and take all the lift work... or the up coming olympics dos'nt sap the accomodation. Rolling Eyes

All i want to do is chill, board, party, work the lifts and earn enough to support the lifestyle.. Very Happy

I am but a simple man...

I might now be going in 09/10 as ive sorted my college out by pulling my finger out my arse and working hard so that i dont have to do an extra year. Whistler is on my list of possible resorts but with the olympics going to be on im not sure.

Oh bugger...
I'd always assumed that the olympics, was the other end of the year.. I just looked it up feb march Rolling Eyes

I like the winter olympics, and I defo get some beers to watch it on the telly, but being there with all those people. nah not for me...

OK... that kind of changes things for me.....

I want enough Lift work, but i don't want too much... if yoal know what i mean.

so I guess whistlers not the place to chill out for me that i had hoped. Confused

better start another thread..

i will be there im hoping. Providing i can arrange accom way before hand i would go during the olympics. It will be alot busier but alot of the people wont be using the mountain they will be technical and production staff so although town will be much busier the slopes wont be overrun.

Plus alot of the staff will be based in vancover rather than whistler

The municipality of Whistler are expecting visitor numbers to be quite a way down during the Olympic year. Except for the month the games are on it shouldn't be any worse than normal and even then don't be surprised if for the most part the slopes are empty. I wouldn't rule it out just because the Olympics are on, everyone else is doing the same thing. If you can guarantee a job and accommodation with the mountain before you go then you'll be fine. The main difficulty will be for people without staff accommodation as the private sector of the housing market will be very strained.

I was going to apply for a lift job for this years season, for the London interview... it turned out that before you could go for an interview, I had to join CCUSA which was going to cost me around £200... which at the time it wasn’t mentioned on the Whistlerblkcmb site, it was only once I'd filled in the Membership form that I found that out on the CCusa site.. Rip off.

I know that ccusa offer many other discounted services, once you’re a member but I was already a member of Bunac, and they were cheaper, but did'nt have a partnership with whistler..

I don't know what the story is for over seas recruitment for 09/10 yet.

I still love to have the Lift job lined up before i get there... just be one less thing to worry about...

I was always going to take staff accommodation, as I want a hassle free season, even if it’s a bit more expensive.

I have edited this post because I had another look at the email I was sent and realized that it was the wrong company I was slaging off...

AFAIK OWH is for Aussies and Kiwis... I don't think us brits can join it, you sure you got that right about OWH? As its pointless for them to hold a job fair in the UK if you cant be a member of OWH.

one of the main drawcards for me going to whistler this year is the olympics. Everyone staying away means plenty more powder tracks for me! Laughing

Accom prices look crazy for next year!

Ha seasonaires are trying to charge 9k CAD rather than 6K for White Gold for the season yet there is talk of them shipping you out on a road trip for the 2 weeks of the olympics....

Getting jobs for next season wont be the issue, but as always housing is, most hotels are booked up now, most seasonal accommodation is getting booked or putting rates up, monthly zoned places are charging a fortune for the olympic months(the place im renting is charging $30k for the month of Feb) and nightly rental zoned places will be charging at least $500 a night. Trust me, I've been scouring the rental market for the last few months and either places are available long term (minus the games) or charge daft amounts for the games periods, some owners/landlords are shipping their tenants out of town for the games which works for some people but not for me.
Not trying to put people off because the hills may be quiet and there will be tons of work going as the seasonal resident who typically fill these jobs wont have anywhere to live. If your thinking of coming and not working I think you will find it quite hard to get accommodation.
