Hey Jguys, wondering if you can throw some of that good advice this way...
Firstly I’m really set on being in whistler this coming season, however am harboring the common concerns re housing and work. Actually not so worried about work, mainly the accom. I’ve looked into some of the organised house set ups and can get a place in a house – shared room for $7250 for the season in Alpine way(15th nov-april). Is this a massive rip-off? I expect to have to rough it a bit, but for the most part I’d like to live of my wages using savings occasionally, but at this rate with a standard mountain job, I’ll struggle just to cover the cost of rent.
Secondly I have no concerns about getting a Canadian visa (pretty much just a stamp these days for us Aussies) however I’ve had to renew my passport before being able to apply so feasibly wont get that through for 5-8 weeks from now. Am I wasting my time applying for jobs before it comes through – even if its pretty much a given?
So in summary the main question is should I take this pricey house and suck it up, or wing it. |

thats around 1600 a month, which for a shared house is pricy unless its a very nice big house with utilities included. But if you dont have much to choose from I would take this up if you can afford it.
Do some shopping around, call landlords and hassle people, its a landlords market atm, but don't wait too long as its only going to get harder.
Don't underestimate how much you will spend here during a season, when there's parties, apre, new gear tempting you, loss/damage, insurance, beer, food(can be done inexpensively if you shop wisely) and beer. You may want/need more than one PT job, it depends on the jobs. Restaurant servers, bell boys, hotel service are a few good areas to look for to earn.
With work, yeah pretty much wasting your time sending emails until you get here for most seasonal jobs. Get here early, get in line and make an impression, good experience is a huge benefit also.
Some restaurants (if thats the field you are aiming at) are being bought out during Feb, some will retain staff some wont, so having a backup job elsewhere is a good idea.
If your not working for the mountain, I recommend buying an early bird season pass, you save $$$'s. There are rumors this year that there will be significant discounts on season passes, due to be announced soon. The vancouver hills have done this so may also be there case here. |

there seems to have some issues with finding a place to stay in whistler this year for the winter because of the olympics...
Discount is only for cypress as they olympics will be there but Grouse and seymour didn't benefit from one.
I will live in Vancouver and just hit the place for riding when there is good snow. |

so would you advise if you are planning on working on the mountain not to get an early bird pass as you wont be using it much and not making huge savings??
remember reading something about a refund on it if you dont use it for 28 days? |

PM me with some info about yourself. If you're in Lodnon and can meet up - even better.
Wont last long people... |

| Season it accomodations have places for rent. I have stayed in them and the houses are usually really nice, located right near the village and they usually hook up the internet and ps2s etc. The one i was in had a hot tub as well. The guys who run it are super friendly and helpful. www.seasonit.co.uk |

Hi guys,
We are booked for March next year, going to miss Jan and Feb due to high accom prices for the Olympics. March had some cool snow last year!
Staying in The Marquise again in Blackcomb.
