Hey Gav, great photos!
Im actually looking for a snow blogger especially for backcountry, I have a guy from Voleurz writing for us but hes on vacation and hes all about park. If you wanted to step up and write about your backcountry tales they would be an awesome addition to the site.
I have a sort of snow diary on there which is just me saying what my day was but its pretty uneventful really.
Anyway let me know if your interested |

Yeah dude i could do that,i am here to ride and tour all winter, next week we are going to Rogers Pass for 4 days and over the Olympics we are going to Terrace for 10 days,so i'd be encompassing the whole of British Columbia and not just Whistler/Blackcomb,although i do use the lifts to access out back alot |

Hi Guys, I'm after a bit of whistler advise! Me and my boyfriend are thinking about doing a working season in whistler this year - we've worked in vancouver before (a couple of years ago now). We're quite new at snowboarding and figure the best way to progress is to get out there!
It might be a bit of a long shot but we'd like to keep working on our career paths as much as possible if we can (inevitably we will need to accompany this with bar work etc and volunteer work for our passes!)
I've seen jobs advertised in europe whereby chalet/hotel owners employ web developers to maintain/build their websites (and in some cases some housekeeping is involved) in return for accommodation - I'm a web developer (currently working for an e-commerce company) and would really like to find some work along these lines, but I wouldn't know where/how to find it!
My boyfriend is a cameraman/editor and whilst work along these lines may be harder to find any suggestions would be appreciated.
By the way, also ready your seasonaire tips! V useful!!
Thanks!!

Sorry to say but I think you are going to struggle especially your BF, there are quite a lot of people into that sort of thing out here.
Your best bet is to come out and get jobs in the resort doing bar / service work and offer to work for people for free, try to build up a rep and some contacts and do it that way but it will take some time.
I would imagine your best bet would be to work in Vancouver and come up at the weekend. |

Resort TV would be one place to try for cameraman work, and WhistlerCreekProductions, although they are small and work may not be consistent, There are lots of media companies sprouting up at the moment but they are all indie small companies. If your coming soon the Olympics may be an option for camera work but that will be temporary.
As Moo says retail/bar/service may be a good option to start with to maintain income and then branch out to find other work.
Web is funny here, there isn't really a huge requirement for web devs and most businesses hire freelancers or a big name from the city depending on their level of puzzeledness.
There are web devs in Whistler but again they are freelance and its pretty saturated. |

how much money do you get through for food/drink in a whole season? Im looking to go next season and will be self catering. I know everyone says it is only as expensive as you make it, but a rough estimate?
Scott, I read on your guide (v helpful btw) that I want to organise my accom. early. I dont want to fork out extra cash to seasonaires/season it for doing something that I could do, but I need to work until the end of october to pay for it... and so i cant get there in sept like you suggest. It is worth emailing an estate agent out there to see what they can do in the summer? the same goes for finding work in the resort. |

Id say at least $3000 CAD for 6 months for groceries for a couple, but as you know its subjective it depends if your a good cook, like to eat out a lot, can shop well, if you have transport you can get to squamish to save a few $.
Estate agents don't really have much in the way of rentals. I went to an estate agent this year to find a rental and they were pretty useless. The properties that were shown were not good at all. Saying that next year could be a completely different story on the rental market, best to look in pique, question and hammer the owners that are renting their properties. They favour long term rentals so make sure you explain how long you are intending to stay.
Beware of scams, don't sent any money wired, and speak with the owners/agents over the phone if possible.
Its hard work to find accommodation from the UK, but next year could be different, and im guessing rental rates will drop due to availability,
I would recommend either seasonit or seasonaires for an easy solution. |
