Hi
Im thinking of going to Austria for a winter hol. Got a couple of places in mind but would like to know if anyoe can reccomend a resort.
Ideally it will have good apres ski, a decent park which will cater for beginners and intermediates, lots of runs with tree lining the slopes and maybe some night boarding.

Cheers
Liam

Mayrhofen. Love the place.

Wouldn't go for snowbombing though, and especially when it's in mid-april next year.

hey there - i've been to two different Austrian areas, and they were both awesome.

Firstly Saalbach-Hinterglemm - Really cool area. Certainly had the things you were looking for - good bars, a coupla parks (and this was back in 02, so prob more parks now), plenty of tree lined runs. Not too sure about night boarding tho. Bad points are that I think it's pretty low, so may not be so snow sure, and also cos of the layout, with it being a long relatively low valley, there's lots of traversing and cat tracks to be done if you wanna get across the area. Still, i had an awesome time there.

My other Austrian experience is St Anton and the Arlberg valley. This was amazing. We flew to germany, then hired a car and drove there, and would really recommend this as it means you can go to all the resorts covered with the Arlberg lift pass including the super cool and quiet Sonnenkopf (Tho I got into trouble for telling people about this place before so don't mention it to anyone else!). This place will really provide everything you could possibly want.

Soll is good, has top nightlife (only in a few bars), but I thought the terrain was average, and there's a high % of skiiers. The park is all the way over in Westendorf (?) too.

Mayrhofen is a proper boarder's resort, with a massive park, access to a glacier at Hintertux, and stacks of great terrain. And then there's the Ice Bar. Smile

Been there in March for the past 3 years, which may give you an idea of how highly I rate it.

Have heard excellent reports about St. Anton, but not been. Definitely on the to do list though. Ditto Saalback/Hinterglemm and Solden.

Zell am See/Kaprun are also supposed to be good too.

yeah just to add another vote for Mayrhofen, I go there every year

Park is cool, there's always some good competitions on and loads of cool bars, make sure you check out the bar up in the igloo on the mountain, immense!

Mayrhofen is ace!! St Anton is the busiest place I've ever been to in my life!!! Was really disappointed - I either timed it wrong or have missed the point completely, though you can get the bus to Lech & Zurs which I could never afford to go to otherwise & had some of the best days ever at Smile Used to go to Soll the area as a kid - all Austria's pretty ace really & they totally do the best Apres imo Smile
