Post subject: What Boots? Burton v Salomon  PostPosted: May 21, 2008 - 12:12 AM

My set up is the burton clash with the burton mission bindings. Im looking to just do freeride and the occational park, but mainly freeride.

I have little experience with boarding, been to dry slope 2 years ago and passed for open practice, and havent been since i dislocated my shoulder on my first open practice Sad

So now im looking for a boot to go with my setup for later this year. Stock is selling out quick in places (for the cheap ones) and i wont be going to london until another month to get to a shop to get some boots, and worried they will sell out.

I have measured my feet and checked online . 27cm should be getting 8 1/2.

Now im looking to get either the Burton rulers or hail, or the salomon F22. I hear they are all good boots and have good reviews. I think the hail is too much a freestyle boot for me, while the rulers are all round? Then the F22 are like one of the top boots. So can anyone recommend a boot? or shall i go for lower range boots?

like everyone else after me who will say the same...

Get the most comfortable, and try lots on!!!!

I mean this is the most important part of the set up, you will be wearing these for hours at a time, get ill fitting boots and you will be in for a most uncomfortable experiance, , some dudes on here will tell you that.

but just try as many as you can on, all brands fit differently, wide, narrow and so on. Cool

You must try boots on before you buy!!!!!

I ride in Burton Rulers uk10's and they are a great fit for my feet. A couple of months ago I had my feet measured with a Salomon sizing "device???" because was interested in the F22. Acccoring to that I was a Salomon size 9. But when I tried them on they were so narrow for me couldn't get my feet in!

All brands are different.

I was told when I got my boots that Salomon are quite a narrow fit, which are good for me because I have very narrow heels and suffer with heel lift in any other brand. Go try on!! If you've got particularly wide plates of meat then Salomon ones might not be for you.

Same here - I have the aformentioned wide plates of meat, so was told basically not bother trying on 32's or Salomon. If you have wide feet Burton are the way to go - normally I wear size 11 shoes cos my feet are so wide, but with the Burton Rulers I have I'm, down to a 10, perhaps even a 9.5!

I was told that 32s were wide? Anyway I ride with some lashed and they suit my feet even though I was told by the guy in the shop that they probably wouldn't. This is because I get on better with the way they lace up than some other brands (the burtons and Salomon I tried on).
Basically, try them on first and spend a bit of time in them in the shop. I know it can be difficult/ time consuming but it's worth the effort, I spent quite a bit of the trip this year waiting for people who's boots weren't quite right and they had to keep stopping to loosen/tighten them mid run.

edited because I can't get the quote thing to work this time around

yeh every1 says try on first. But issue is ... everything is going out of stock Sad . Im going to try carters360 (im in reading) they had a size 8 boot yesterday, but they just sold out of 8s.. Gona try size 8 1/2s... in fact the website had no size 8s in stock. So try my luck in the actual store. My key issue is that stock is selling fast and its sale season. By the time i get to snow and rock, or TSA in london.. there will be nothing left and i'll have to spend £200 on a boot instead of £120 next season.

dont mean to seem unsympthetic but better to spend £200 on a good pair of boots that REALLY fit and will last you, than spend £120 on a pair that are nearly the right fit but more importantly the right price.

that would just be a waste of cash because after a few weeks of painful/poor riding you will only feel the need to splash out again. Nothing hampers your enjoyment of riding or your progression like badly fitting boots.

good luck in your search

i think snow and rock do a refitting service for £15 an hour. So if i can get a good cheap boot. I can just easily take it to them for refitting rite? I mean if im saving £100 anyway. Does boot refitting work?

Where are you based?

Two Seasons in Cambridge seem to absorb all unsold stock from other branches - worth a call.

I know that salomon boots don't really fit well inside the burton cartel binding, though you should check if they are ok in yours Wink

i just tried on burton rulers and salomon limited from last season. The salomons were stiffer. They seem to be more responsive with 0 or a minute amount of heel lift. These were the only 2 avaliable in my size. The burton rulers had a bit of a heel lift but they wernt as stiff and bent at the top abit. Didnt seem as responsive. I fink im going to go for the rulers as a friend said to me the less stiff the better it is for a beginner.
