Hey guys had my 6 hours snowboard lesson yesterday and at the end of it my instructor told me that i am ready for the main slope but you haven't tried the poma yesterday and i'm not sure what would happen if you couldn't use it.
So he went off and asked his boss who said that i can come on the day and try the poma. If an instructor is available then i can get an instructor to help me, if not i can try by myself. But if i fall over too many times i may be asked to leave. So he said i can try and use the slope and have a chance of being asked to leave or i could go for a "guided practice" which at the end i would have a bash on the poma.
Suggestions?
p.s sorry if this is confusing

| if you go during a quiet time and get the instructor to help you i think you will find it easier in my opinion. There is probably nothing worse than trying to do it yourself and having the feeling of knowing if you fall off to many times you will be asked to leave. Also if you do have problems with it the instructor is there to give you pointers and advice so you can correct yourself for next time and least you will learn how to use the thing properly.Dont worry to much everyone (i think) gets nervous using the thing for the first time,i know i did it stopped me from going mk for ages!!! |

hey
i learned to use the poma at MK not on a lesson coz it was too busy also. I made a fool of myself lol :S but one of the guys working the lift gave me advise and eventually i got used to it. i was so embarased but its kool now dont give up! i would suggest going at a quiet time and just ask a free instructor if there is one to help you
good luck |

Probs best to give them a ring just before you go - make sure there's going to be an instructor free for a bit when you get there. It won't take you long to pick it up if he thinks you're ready for the big boys slope!
There's a bit of a knack to using the pom's... but it's easy once you get the hang of it. It's like riding a bike, one with no wheels, that drags you up a hill sideways by your b*$@%cks, while your feet are attached to a plank... piece of cake!
The lift at my local slope stops on the flat - so the only trouble i had at Cas was slamming arse first into the wall at the bottom of the off ramp cos my toe edge turns STILL suck after a year of riding nasty scratchy dendex. |

It's summertime now, so getting very quiet.
You should be fine. Speak to an instructor or liftie so they're aware before you give it a go (if it's quiet, ask about having the lift slowed down for the first attempt). Took me ages after I learnt to board - used to hold up the lifts for ages without any problem Same for my dad after he finished lessons. |

| Hi with reference to your problem , if you fall to many times do what i saw 1 guy and 2 girls do last week at mk , they unstrapped , put there boards under there arms and put poma between legs and just used it to help them up ( as inmstructors / lifties do , so as not to fall ) but practice willl make you better .......... as for the nasty exit at cas .....get real its way better to help you keep the momentum when you have both feet strapped in , at mk its flat and boring , at tam it a rubber ug then a short / few feet , so a SLIGHT down hill sweep isnt classed as nasty ( my opinion only , so not to offend any newbies or lesser adventurous ppl ) |

I wouldn't call the lifts at Cas 'nasty'.... ^ T'was the smoggy one what said that! ^
It's my toe edge that's the problem! I was fine after a couple of runs tho. I've only been once - and the guys took me on freestyle nite! I'm looking forward to some synthetic-snow shredding in the future tho.
SCUK Bash anyone? |
