Hello all.
Sadly i have had to close my manufacturing business due to the global credit crunch and a little pain in the a*se called China!!
I'm nearly 30 years old and not sure what to do with myself now......so...
..Do i just up and go to do a season?? Is this my chance? A gap year maybe?
Summer in NZ?
I dont know. Confused. Scared.

that really does suck but if you got a few quid in the bank do it!...
as soon as I finish my loan I'm off, jobs are easy enough to come by.

if you are nearly 30 then get your nz working holiday visa and head down there for a year. you could take a couple of place in on your way down to nz.
if your worried about going by your self, then don't be as you'll meet very easily. |

| I'm nearly 30, give or take 10 years. I doubt you'll regret it and you might find you won't be able to do it further down the line due to other commitment. Silver linings and all that. It could be a life changing experience. |

Well, saying that you are out of job now unfortunatly, and if you have nothing to left behind here (kids or wife), that may be on of the last time you can do such a thing!
I am really thinking of doing it myself at some point, and well as other said that will be a great experience, nothing as good as getting a nice 6 months away to change your mind! |

Fair play, i got the replies i expected. lol
I have a few things to sort out here to do with my old business. Also i must think about what to do with my house etc.
Thank you for all your advice.
I will let you know what i do.
In fact, the signature link i have i was going to use to explain what happened with my business, coz the page was meant for work originally......i think i may just fill it with photos and stories of the places i have been snowboarding...the PLEASANT side of living!

| Do it! I've decided to quit my job (I'm 27 this month and I feel like I need to do it now before I never do!) at the end of July to catch half the NZ season. I'm not sure where the money's going to come from yet but I'm determined to go so I'll find it from somewhere! I reckon I'll get a visa and spend a whole year out there, and who knows maybe I'll even get to snowboard the first part of the 2009 season too! |

Ask a question like that in a forum like this and EVERYONE will tell you YES!!!
I'm 29. I was a database programmer in London. I decided to take a 6 month sabattical in Canada. Without a doubt the best thing I've ever done in my life. It's wierd. Until I left the rain, stress, pressure, drinking too much and unsatifying job I didn't realise how much all of that was making me miserable and depressed. I convinced myself that all of that was normal and you just had to put up with it and earn your keep. Total rubbish.
I'm shortly going to become a qualified snowboard instructor. Started taking courses on avalanches and backcountry skiing. Plan is now to train to be a backcountry guide working for a heli / cat skiing operation (might take 6+ years). Never been happier. Never want go to back (aside from visiting the folks). Current worst nightmare is not getting a visa extension.
I say it do it. Seriously - what harm can it do? Worst case scenario leave the country for a bit, turn around come back and pickup where you left off. And very likely you'll have an incredible time ; )

| I think you should do it. Im quitting my job in june to go and do a season in nz. dont know wat the plan is when i get back, hopefully it gives me some inspiration on what to do next but if nothing else its gonna be an amazing time so do it!!!! |
