Post subject: Are you happy with your current board?

Just wondering if people change there board each year.
For the last couple of years i have, but this year im thinking thats not gonna happen for once as im really happy with my un inc. I cant really see much point in changing it.
What do you ride and why are you going to change it or not ? |

I normally keep my boards till there knackered, or till I wanna change of style. I had my first board for learning on, then for my first snow holiday I upgraded from a Hammer 154 to a Ride 168!!! Then over in Whistler I wanted to stop hooning around fast so got a 161, which I then snapped.
Then I got a Capita 158 Shapeshifter which I love  I always like looking at this years boards, but never too fussed about actually owning them - I got a big discount on my Capita cos it was last years model when I bought it. I must admit I bought it mostly for the shape and graphic as I couldn't demo it beforehand (It's the one with the double swallow tail and the hand marks showing you where to grab that was ridden by Travis Parker!). But I really love it now - it's obviously a bit shorter (Tho with a longer effective edge than the 161 Un inc I was thinking of getting at the time) and a lot softer, but really good fun - i can still go as fast, but it's a tad more playful as well, so unless it snaps I can't see myself changing for a while. Actually having said that, I have slightly cracked it  |

I have changed mine normally for the last few years,
i originally had a salamon Amp i think it was to learn on with some k2 bindings but after my first week away i wanted something a bit better than a beginner board so the following year my shop let me part ex it, and i got a K2 www 155 with some burton cartels! i loved this set up but wasnt really into the freestyle then so the following year i changed it for a Burton Jussi again part ex'in but i hated this it was poss a bit short a 154 but it felt horrid and i had a Ride DH DFC too. man iv had some boards in my short time of this snowboarding lark!
i thought so this year rather than wait till next year i thought id part ex it and get some of this years boards in the sale!
i sold my Jussi back to my shop and picked up this years T6 for £250 and have some P1's on it and this is my all mountain ruler.... maybe a little advanced for me but i will conquor it! and then i wanted a jib stick so got a Technine Jib Ltd edition in gold in the sales was stoked at getting the Ltd edt model with some Athletic pro bindings on it.
will use this for the first time at Tam later, but i cant see me changing either of these two boards now until they are ruined which should be in a good few years time!
think alot of it is down to always wanted something better which is why iv changed but now i feel really happy with the two boards iv got one for fun and park and one for all over assaults!
however i wish i still had my www if i get a new park board i think it'll be one of these again or maybe a batelon ! |

I changed mine this year to a True Freedom 156. I', not going to change again until this one is knackered as I love it so much! Although I may buy a park board if/when I actually get good enough  |

very happy with my new evil twin.
I have just got back from snowboarding in Austria, I took my trusty 10 year old Burton balance board 156 and my new evil twin. The burton balance finally gave way and snapped after doing no more than a small 180 on the flat (this board has had some serious hammer over the years!)
So spent the majority of the trip riding powder on my evil twin which it handled ok. Its been said on here before, but i'll say it again. This board rocks for butters! super fun. Great colour/graphics (green).
Thanks once again. Russ & Co for the tips and pix in the park.

Where I’ve changed boards in the past it been because I’ve either wrecked the old one or because my riding style has changed and I feel I’ve outgrown it. I don’t think I‘d ever replace a board I’m happy riding, just for the sake of getting a new bit of kit.
Over time, I’ve gone from riding an asymetric alpine board (with hard boots) to long freeride, to short flexi freestyle (153 was the shortest) and from there, stuck with freestyle boards but got progressively longer. I’m currently on a Sapient PNB1 160. This works really well for me and I doubt I’ll be replacing this till I bust it. |

| for the past few years i've stayed with the dh as i really like the board, i've had 4 of them so far and only change them when its trashed. |

i think the lenth of time you keep a board depends on how much you use it, if you only go away for 1 week a year then if you like the design of the board theres no reason why you cant keep for 10 years, but if you do a season or ride every week at a dryslope or snowzone then after a year your board would be showing a lot of wear and tear and you probalby shoud get a new one
i've had a new board every year but i feel that i use them enough that i need a new board..
a few years back i had a burton dominant and although it was still a good board i got a new rome artifact, however 7 months later i snapped it and went back to using the dominant but found that there was just no life left it in.
also i know a guy from teesside uni who has a burton blunt from two years ago.....he loves it and rides it like a mad man but when my other mate had a go on it he siad it was like riding a peice of wet cardboard!
any back to the original question..
Yes i'm very happy with my salomon prospect 156 but i know that in 6 months or so, because i ride a lot then it will be past its best and time for a new one.
but bacause i like it so much and its best out on the mountians i have just gor myself an endevour colour 153 to ride indoor and at halifax and save my prospect for next seasons trips away. |

very true - I still have boards from 10 years ago that i'd ridden once a year, whereas the only board I'd ridden, worn out and then snapped I only had between Jan and June cos I was doing a season and riding every day, so got way more use than any boards I'd had for 10 years! |

| Ive now ridden and shagged over 6 boards in my time doing this, first one was a Rossignol Nomad, Then a Burton Bullet, followed by a un inc. Then I went off burton boards and started riding a Nitro Punisher but she is on her last legs and I now ride aan Automaton which will prob do for the next couple of years. Don't do seasons anymore so not riding them as hard as I used to |

| I have a Burton Air 161 and have had for 3 years, it is pretty trashed now and I shall be getting a TRice next year... I don't have the inclination to have a park board and I live 3 hours from my nearest dome... |

I have 2 boards at all times - a longer one more suited to all mountain stuff that can cope with powder and the other, shorter one, for just park and messing around on. The longer boards last longer because I don't get to the mountains as much as I'd like to, whereas the shorter ones seem to have a shorter life because of the pounding they take. I always take the view that you should ride it until it dies, so I do (something my girlfriend might not be so happy to hear  ). |

| I love my set up. I have burton boxers which are super light and nicely worn in, although I'll need a new pair soonish. A skate banana, and last night Im ordering some union forces in the sale tonight! |

I like both of my board!
Was only changing when mine where dead before, an now got 2 different board for my 2 different programs!
I have a APO Amanite 161 FT '08 when time to ride powder come. That my board to hit the pow and jump around. I really like it, quite resistant to stones, and really good in powder as it almost never sink!
I have a ROME Artifact 156 '08 when time to hit the park come, especially because my Amanite not really good for rails. Have only ride it once as for now, but I already like it!
I have 2 different biding for each board, according to their program BURTON Cartels '08 and FLUX Titan '08.
I am bootless at the moment though! |
