Hi guys
This is a bit of a weird request but here goes....
I have been lucky enough to land myself the best research project ever. I'm looking into whether the feel good feeling that you get when riding is caused by chemicals that your brain releases. These chemicals are similar to opiates (ie morphine, heroin) and are thought to reduce pain. I am looking into whether snowboarding can produce this effect.
So here comes the begging, I'm looking for people to take part in my study. It would involve you answering a few questions, taking a run on the slope and letting me take a measurement of your body's pressure threshold before and afterwards. (It isn't actually painful though, promise!) I'm looking for guys and girls of all abilities to take part.
I'm thinking I'm going to try to do my real study at the scuk summer bash in Tamworth in June but I am hoping to run some pilot trials at Castleford sometime in the next few weeks.
If anyone is interested in taking part or wants some more information please get in touch. This is a really interesting study and could show why we love snowboarding so much!
Thank you all so much
Kat |

| Have you thought of using an automatic blood pressure device? You can get them that will take your blood pressure every minute or so. It's a portable device that you wear. Just a thought, oh and if i'm on the Bash i'll take part though the beer might mess the reading up lol |

Good idea, thanks, but I'm actually studying psychology so looking more at what's going on in the brain rather than the body itself. Yeh, I'm starting to worry about the beer now, might find a little window of sobriety somewhere.... or maybe not lol |

| There's a load of us heading to Cas on the 21st if you want to have a test on us then? I'm sure most of us wouldn't object! |

HAHAHA - i'm sorry kat but that is IN NO WAY the best research project ever - in august last year i went to wanaka new zealand to research dentofacial trauma in skiers and snowboarders, spending all day riding cardy and snowpark for 6 weeks and doing a grand total of 10 hours research to justify flying to the other side of the globe
serously what is it with sheffield and blagged research projects?! u at s uni yeah? wish i could help but am busting my ass over exams, sry! |

Yeah, let me know nearer the time. They might have kickers out, it's student night and I think they have a few toys on the go. Maybe an actual student can clarify that.
Here's the 'Who's in' thread for the 21st: http://www.snowboardclub.co.uk/PNphpBB2-viewtopic-t-27395.html |

hey kat! yeah that sounds fab...be interesting to see if these chemicals are in large quantities aswell that inhibit pain whilst riding.,...cos it never hurts whilst your doing it... only few days after. unlike running where u are in pain all the time!
but yeah be mor ethan happy to help out in any way, be test subject or help u collect the data!
Just give me a pm! Im usually at cas! only live 10 mins away so can be there asap!
