Post subject: So what do i need to know about Val D'Isere?...

Booked for the 7th December for a nice early season trip.
I know that snow can be iffy at best early on but couldn't wait and it gives me chance to save up for a March trip. Anyway, I digress...
Have heard Val is pretty good for snow amounts early season and that the link with Tignes offers up a veritable plethora of terrain to go at. Anyone got any advice on what to do, what not to do out there, plus any other info they'd like to share to help me and the gang make the most of our 7 days? |

| 7th Dec really is early, are the lifts in Val even planning to be open at that time? Tignes is quite a bit higher so you should get better conditions with the glacier runs to fall back on in an emergency. |

Val opens on November 29th so it should be very quiet when you are there. Wouldnt expect there to be that much snow at resort level if any but should be ok further up. Going over to Tignes should be a better option as its quite a bit higher. As long as the links to and from the two resort and actually open that early.
Oh and take your credit card if you want to do any shopping, there are more Gucci shops in Val than there are snowboard and ski shops, the place is like Bond street.
And watch out for the posh Russians in fur
Its bard to know what runs to suggest without knowing how much will be open and what the snow coverage will be in different areas. |

Hey dude, long time no see! how are you? I'm over in Rugby now too...
I don't know much about Val D, but I have been to Tignes early season, 2nd - 5th Dec and I'm pretty sure they said Val D was going to be opening in the next few days. Tignes was OK, there weren't that many pistes open, but you could ride back to the town and there was a park up on the glacier. |

| the whole espace killy should be open first week of dec so should be ok, but as wannabe says you will probs get better conditions in Tignes, so you may find yourself making the journey over to tignes a few times. |

| Ive never got the reasons for staying in Val, everything costs twice as much as in Tignes and you end up riding all the same pistes anyway. PLus Tignes is far more snowboarder friendly as a town, not many snowboarders staying in Val, probably because of the above mentioned Russians in Fur and the stupid prices. I paid more for a meal there than in a Central London restaurant. |

Cheers guys. We're under no illusions that Val will be cheap but for £300 in a caterd chalet for the week, I think we've done pretty good.
Have heard Tignes is a much snowboard-friendly resort, but we're gonna try and convert the Ruskies to the way of the single plank!!! 
Craikey, we'll have to hook up for a sesh at Tam or MK. How you enjoying the greatness of Rugby?
Was told that espace Killy opens 28th November and judging by previous years' records, snow seems to be okay. As you've all said, at leats there are glaciers to have a pop at if it's a pants lower down.
Gucci shops - are there any Primark or TK Maxxs? |

Sounds good to me, I've done something to my knee though, so I'm not riding until that's sorted, but should still get up to Tam with the camera at some point!
I'm enjoying Rugby, especially the fact I don't need to go on the A14 or the M6 everyday! |

Was in Tignes at the end of last november and early december the years before that. Espace killy dont always open on the date they say it will - it does depend on snow but having said that the glacier will be open and the lanches lift should be running and its where you will find the best snow, so just head over there  . Even the winter before last when the papers here were saying there was no snow we were riding every day and on the winter before that the espace killy opened a week late but we still rode the glacier so relax and enjoy |

| Val is gonna be happening this year, and the amount or tail is just rediculous. This doesn't really help, but I'm excited and will also be there at that time and 'till the end of the season. |

| We went to Val 13th Dec last year and they had had quite a lot of snow that week and the week before! We had an awesome week - loved Val and would love to go back although think we're going to try Tignes this year. Any advice on how to get from gen to Tignes? I need to fly out a day later than my mates so will be missing the transfer from the airport and private transfers are around £125 - ouch! |
