im off to kaprum next week and was hoping to get some tips and pointers of where to head.
im hoping there'll be some fresh snow the weekend we get there (forecast says 20 cm, fingers crossed) so on there may be the chance of some fresh off piste as well.
cheers |

The gondola and lower lifts in Kaprun can get really busy, make sure you head up to the top 1st thing. There are a few board parks up there if you're into that sort of thing and conditions are nearly always mint.
The lift pass for Kaprun also includes Zell am see. The Schmitten has some great tree lined runs but there's never a massive amount of snow on the lower slopes. There are a few reds on the back side of Zell that are great fun, you can easily waste 2 days there.
The best conditions can definately be found in Kaprun, we've only visited in mid-late March and there's always been tons of pow off piste. Only problem is that as the conditions in Zell deteriorate, everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) descends on Kaprun!!
Get as high as possible as soon as possible! |

Went last year in March in the really mild winter (It was felt like May in the resort.) Maisokogel and Zell Am See were struggling in the temps, and get slushy at the bottom by dinner, but the glacier was amazing.
And as someone else said, if the other runs are struggling, everyone hits the glacier so it gets a bit busy on the lift up to it. |

it does get busy getting on the Glacier, but no busier than the morning gondola up the penken in Mayrhofen, once you are up there its fine, the area is massive and there is loads of off piste. On the 1st day last week we had to que for a hour to get into the carpark and was thinking 'O MY GOD' but when we got through the mayhem and got up there it was fine !!! even fresh pow from the night before !!! you just have to deal with it !!!! |

| If you're up for a good week, you can also extend your pass to include Saalbach, as well as Zell, Kaprun and the glacier. If the snow's good, that would make a fantastic week, as it would offer everything. Head to Hinterglemm for the better snow! Saalbach can be reached in 30 mins from Kaprun, if you have a car! |
