Okay, we'd like to hear everybody's opinions on the Winter Bash 2008 in general and try to get an idea of where you'd like to see us take it in the future.
I think WB08 proved that chalets have to be the way forward. The vast majority of us are not students and although the L2A Yeti apartments were actually pretty good, they weren't a patch on the chalets with pool and sauna for the extra £100 for the week. We'd also keep a cheap and cheerful apartment option for those that couldn't afford the chalets. At £320 for the week including a lift pass, I think the chalets represented good value for money with all the extras we try to organise throughout the week.
Wasteland were good this year, with no problems that I know of beyond the confusion with the return of the deposits, which was clarified quickly before we left.
As for organised events - we have the quiz, which remains a fantastic night. Yeti did us proud and showered us with gallons of free spirits and beer throughout the night, plus two bottles of bubbly for the winners. We had the Tex Mex night at Smokey Joes and that seemed popular and a bargain too, especially with the footy on.
On the slopes, we had a half-day of coaching (thanks to the weather) from Spencer and people seemed to get a great deal from that.
We have a couple of ideas knocking about. Either we try to make it in to more of an event with live bands, parties and more evening stuff. Or, alternatively, we stick to the snowboarding aspect and get more coaches sorted, either from local schools or by British pros we can draft in - possibly in two groups for improvers and freestylers and over perhaps 2 or 3 days - we'd leave the beginners to join established courses in resort. In the bigger resorts we could also do some guided tours, especially if the off piste is looking great. Video analysis might also be an option as it's usually pretty obvious when you see yourself, what you're doing wrong.
Personally I'd favour the snowboarding aspect - there's plenty of festival events going on such as the Brits and Snowbombing after all and I'd like the WB to be all about the snowboarding. The vast majority never seemed short of something to do in the evenings anyway and didn't need us to tell them what to do! The idea behind the WB is that it's more than you could organise with a bunch of mates - value added and all that.
Next year looks like we have Tignes down as a firm favourite, although from what I remember, accommodation was a little more expensive there than L2A and we'd have to make sure Wasteland had access to decently located quality chalets.
Anyway, all views appreciated. |

Morzine or Tignes although I have never been to either but have heard they are good.
I thought the coaching with Spencer was ace and everyone enjoyed it and got something out of it.
Coaching sessions throughout the week would be good, park, piste etc on different days.
The evening entertainment is ace as always but I personally would like more stuff during the day (coaching). |

The focus must surely be on boarding, I can get mashed quite nicely here in Scotland without having to spend £600+ quid to do so. The coaching with Spence was really good, especially as it wasn’t all park stuff. I would definitely be up for more through out the week, even if that meant a small fee to those taking the lessons. Video of me riding would also be great, it could definitely help with improving peoples technique.
As for destinations, Tignes would be good, but is there any chance of going somewhere in Europe other than France?... Say Austria? |

| Why not go to Morzine, and try and arrange a SCUK coaching day/ private session in the Stash Park? |

Somewhere in the Porte de Soleil area (Morzine, Avoriaz, Les Gets) also an option. I'm there for most of next week, but will mainly be on the lesson slopes with kid1. We have a heap of accommodation partners already based in the area, so there might be an option to use them directly if we were to sort a week well enough in advance.
Keep 'em coming. |

Personally the location doenst really bother me, i only decided not to go as most of the people i would have hung out with were either not going anywhere or going to Tignes so i went with them, wasnt anything to to with the location of this years bash for me. Only thing that possibly put me off was that last year ended up being more about the beers than the slopes, did more snowboarding in 2 days last week than i did in a week on last years bash, i dont have enough willpower to not go along with everyone else. Not a criticism of the bash just if you get that many brits in one place its going to get messy and i this year i wanted to ride hard rather than drink hard. But then thats personal choice, no one is forced to get wasted. I'd definately have gone again this year if the weeks hadnt coincided. Shame really.
I do think Tignes would be a great location for a bash, you can ride all week and still be descovering new areas.... but i sure aint cheap! How about Val Disere hahahaha |

Not too fussed where as long as it's decent accommodation and good choice of terrain for everyone. However, for Europe I'm a big fan of Austria. Hint hint. Just as I said last time, I will try and make it next year honest. Unfortunately, you clashed this year with my Fernie trip and Canada wins over France for me. |

I don't think the live band option is something that I'd be keen on as we would end up paying more and if you get a group of SCUkers near alcohol we can make plenty of our own entertainment . Coaching is something I'd be way more keen on..
Definitely interested in somewhere with a lagher area to explore, personally I won't be heading back to L2A as I don't think there's that much more ground to cover, so the espace killy or morzine/Avoriaz gets my vote any time.
Happy to pay a bit more, but you do have to consider those people that want to come but don't have much cash, so keeping at least a few apartments would be nice. If you are going more down the chalet routes, please make sure that the bedrooms are sensible (that little alcove Harvey and I got dumped in was too fecking hot and no space for more than one of us to move at a time)
Oh, and the ratio of men:women needs sorting as well |

Dammit BA, you're crap. Should have come anyway . See you at the Brits tho
Anyway, the one comment I forgot to make (big big big big BIG comment) is that you guys should ditch Wasteland - they are shyte, and I resent giving those useless feckers any of my hard earned. Surely there's someone better to go with that can tell the difference between their arse and their elbow? |

Well, considering I only saw half of the first one I suppose it's difficult for me to comment...but that's never stopped me before.
First one was great fun except for the accomodation, listening to people who went on the last bash, and this one. I don't think it really matters too much about chalet's/appartments but there are two important factors.
First is space, the appartments at the yeti would have been ok, but they were overcrowded and had no storage space. All the rooms were filled to overcrowding, including sofa's in the dining rooms and there was just no-where to put your gear. I ddin't really expect 5 star, but that was just taking the piss. As pointed out, generally the people going on these trips are not teenagers and don't really want to put up with student accomodation.
Next, proximity. Most people I speak to say that the second bash was ruined by the separation of the accomodation, people didn't feel part of a group like the first year.
Finally, location I guess. As soon as 2 alps was announced this year several people said they weren't interested, but there was no prior consultation as to whether people were interested in going there. Quite a few people seem to be lost to the tignes trip. |

| I know i've been away for a while but i was part of the "splitters week" over in tignes and we had a great week had a fantastic apartment a paid only slightly more than the bash price. I have spent seasons in both L2A and the Espace killy both areas have there advantages, undoubtedly the espace killy has the more varied terrain and larger area, while L2a is more park oriented although it does have access to le grave which is absolutely amazing in the right conditions. Personally for me i prefer the town of L2a but the area of the espace killy. So tignes would get my vote as i am no longer doing seasons the area rather than the night life is more important. Also with Gumby in charge of the Val D park the chance for progression there is huge as the hit are so varied and have something for all abilities. |

| if the price is as good this year me and the other half will definately be attending the next one. Iv been to tignes the last two years so would prefer somewhere new. The main thing for us will be sense of the group. Having gone away just the two of us each time as none of our friends ski or snowboard makes the nights out less fun than if wewere in a group of like minded people. I think the most important aspect is the price though. Especially for those who want two trips away each season. |
