This seems to be one that come up every few weeks so here it goes.

To add one you have to be a member of the forum, on your 'Profile'

The last section is called 'Avatar control panel'

There are 3 ways of adding a picture

  1. Upload one form your computer - Choose a image file (gif, jpg, png etc) from your computer and then upload it.
  2. Link a picture form another site - Link to an image file (gif, jpg, png etc) somewhere else on the internet.
  3. Select from gallery - Choose an image form the gallery (don't think there is many in there)

Which ever you choose the picture should be no greater than 120 X 120 pixels, and the file size no more than 10 KB.

I can hear you asking... But how can I re-size a pic without first doing a degree in Computer Techology?!?!?

You can use any tool that allows you to resize a photo/picture. There are functions that allow you to do this.

The Microsoft Office suite sometimes (depending on version) comes with MS Photo editor.

If you have a Mac, then shame on you, you already have a photo editor and you have no excuse for not resizing!!! Wink

Basically use any photo editing tool at your disposal or download a free photo editor from the web. The one I use is www.irfanview.com. If you have problems re-sizing, ask one of the mods or fellow forumites!

<< My tiny avatar!! I've got it 9KB and less than 100X100, but it's so bloody small:x!!
I don't suppose i can do anything about it can i, coz i used my camera and it must use a lot of pixels, so u can't get it under 10KB very easily without having it so small!!
A few other people have pictures of them, i wonder how they manage to get to fit and being normal size??
I wanted to show off my new scuk sticker Mr. Green !!
Damn it, not the end of the world tho Embarassed ......

This is gonna sound patronising but...nope, I can't do it, even if you are female and live south of the Watford Gap Laughing

What are you editing the file in/on, is there a mac within 25 feet?

email me the pic and I'll have a look if you want...but if you send me a 10mb file, rather than a 10kb one I might shout at you Twisted Evil

The avatar upload software (and indeed all of the forum) will be updated as part of tonight's upload. There is currently an error in it and that's why people have been able to upload huge images. Can you have another try next week. The "blah, blah, blah" bit is probably the bit I need to work out what the actual problem is. There's plenty of people who have managed it, so perhaps it's the image itself.
