My mates fiancee went to TKMAX and picked up some cheap boardin pants last year. After one day at Glenshee she was cold, wet through and thoroughly miserable = False economy. TKMAX is cheap and good for summer holiday clothes not IMO for technical gear. If its cheap theres a good reason its cheap, it won't necessarily perform when you really need it. Ok for the snowdome, not up a glacier.
If you are going away to the snow then look for bargains at the end of season sales around April/May time and right through the summer. You can easily pick up good technical brands for less than half price if you have a good hunt around the internet board shops and your local high street shops tend to want to get of stock then too.
January sales are also a good time to get stuff, my ACG jacket was half price and got Quicksilver gore-tex pants off ebay brand new for £40 (saved 120) just because they were last years style and stock clearances. If its a good quality tech make then it will last a few years, its doubtful a 30 quid pair of trousers from TKMAX will. |

| Went into TK Maxx at the weekend to see what they had. They had a heap of jackets, mostly pretty nasty, though they had a few nice sections ones in there. They only had about 4 pairs of pants in there including a fetching neon lime green trespass pair which were quite fetching, but most of it was pretty gash! |

| I tend to buy all my gear from Sputnik in Marlow. The guys in there always help me out and give great advise, even if if not actually buying. I had a look in TK Maxx with my mate and they only had a few jackets in, all of which were pretty nasty. Im a firm believer of you get what you pay for and if you dont have to be wearing the latest threads and can wait to buy in the end of season sales there are plenty of bargains to be had whilst also supporting your local store. Saying that if theres something new that i must have then i would probably just get it. |

Sorry but your wrong to a certain degree, Tkmaxx is stacked with loads of acg and quicksilver gore tex stuff, in fact 80% of jackets and trousers in fareham and southampton branch were them brands, some are cheap and nasty but others are cheap and good quality, istance i bought a section 10,000/10,000 jacket and a pair of static snowboard pants 10,000/10,000(italian brand rated highly inside italy and by usa). Its like any shop there are low grade clothing as well as hi in most shops, you have to know what your looking for, most clothes stocked in snowboard shops people rant and rave about are not any where near as technical as most tresspass for instance |

Well looks like the Glasgow and Edinburgh stores are pretty badly stocked then! Maybe things will improve this winter. Just from experience of friends who have bought Trespass/Dare2Be stuff from TKMAX claiming it was fairly techy and after a day or 2 stuck up a mountain were cold and wet. But you are right as long as you know what to look for then I'm sure there are good deals to be had if a bit harder to find on the rails! |

I popped into my local Tk Maxx at the Weekend to have a bit of a moochy I found this for my Girlfriend in absolutely perfect condition for only £35
http://www.snowboard-asylum.com/cgi-bin ... 0,1%7C9%7C
As you can see TSA are selling it in the sale for £77.50
They had some quality Quiksilver stuff in stock but alas was only in a Large and was a little short on the sleeves for me.
People seem to be missing the point that TKMaxx does stock alot of really good quality stuff you just have to be prepared to go through everything they have. |

my local shop is TK-max,
unless you mean 30min drive is local
just remember people not everyone has a local shop or slope on their door step
when in the UK my "local" is about an hour away...forget the word local...INDEPENDANT is what's important to me
You can occasionally get lucky and pick up a really good brand from TK, someone mentioned section, however the only reason the brands are there is because they didn't sell wholesale, either catalouge shop over order (usual scenario) or if something went belly up with distribution/sales and the distributor got left with a lot of stuff at the end of the season (this is rare)
And I don't mean to be rude but if your idea of quality snowboarding brands is Quiksilver and Nike ACG then I'm afraid your welcome to TK Maxx and all it beholds!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd rather ride naked than support those corporate whores!
But each to their own |

well I'll buy my kit from anywhere, as long as its what i want
not force'n my self to have limited choice at inconvenient locations / availability
just for the sake of elitism
on that note though all my hardware always comes from a local/independent shop
but clothing.... thats a free for all
