| Yeah lez you can get an early bird pass and online; they don't normally start selling them till about the beginning of september though. You have to book before the middle of October to get the early bird rate, will be about £700. |

| I have a feeling that you can get some sort of discount on other passes, but you'd have to check - I'm not too sure as I never tried myself. BTW, have you considered getting a midweek season pass? I had one and there a hell of a lot cheaper, the only thing being you can't use them on the weekends. It gets pretty busy then anyway, so it's probably worthwhile! |

| that's true, there are certain blackout times. I arrived 30th Dec in Whistler and couldn't ride till the 3rd Jan or something cos of holiday period. I think that's about the only time tho. Depends how keen you are to ride - me and my mate decided that we were gonna be there all season, we were gonna get plenty boarding in anyway, so thought we might as well miss out on those days. Plus, if there was a specific day you wanted to get, I think you get a free or reduced price ticket for that day. |

| Depending on what you're after, you should save between 10% - 25% if you buy it in Canada and my plan is to get all my brand new spankin' gear in Vancouver. Ok, now for the nerdy stuff. These savings will obviously depend on how strong the £ is vs the CAN$ at the time, but the worse case scenario is that you'll still save a couple of ££....... |

You should be able to save some. I bought all my stuff in Whistler and still saved a heap compared to over here. For instance - Venue Onyx 161 - over here for £300, bought over there for $350 - ie about £175.
Just remember when you check out the prices in Canada, you've got to add on the sales tax - equivalent to our VAT, but the display prices don't include it. In BC you have provincial and genereal sales tax (PST and GST) which were about 7% each, tho may have gone up now. You can claim this back tho if you make the purchase within either 3 or 6t months of leaving, and it was worth more than 60 bucks! Just remember to add it on in your head cos you get a bit of a shock when you have your money ready, then get asked for another 50 bucks!
Don't forget, with your season pass you'll get a locals discount for stuff, normally about 10% in a whole heap of shops such as Showcase or Westbeach. And if you get a job with the mountain you get a whole heap more money off - eg 45% off sunglasses and stuff like that! |

| my faves were showcase or westbeach. Not sure about westbeach, but showcase is www.showcasesnowboards.ca. Comor is a pretty good shop, and there are a bunch of others who i can't remember! All those ones above are owned by intrawest tho, so you gotta swallow hard and realise you;re feeding the corporate machine! |

| I tended to just get cash out on my card. I think the bank I was with charged me a fixed amount per transaction, so if you took large amounts of cash out at a time it works out slightly cheaper. You could take over a whole heap of cash or travellers cheques I guess and open an account over there. It's dead easy to do, just beware of all the options cos you always have to pay a monthly charge, and if you go for a really cheap account, generally you only get a couple of free transactions a month, after which you gotta pay for more! |

Unfortunately you can't claim your tax back anymore ace, the canadian government decided to stop the visitor tax rebate program at the end of this march.
More info here:
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/nonresidents/visitors/qa-e.html
In better news though last july the canadian government reduced the gst from 7% to 6%, although the pst in BC is still 7%. Basically means that you will have to add on 13% to most of the prices you see in the shops.
Oh and for everyone going abroad this season not just to whistler; OPEN A BANK ACCOUNT WITH NATIONWIDE. They do not charge for you to get your money out abroad, and there is no minimum limit either; I bought plenty of $1 cookies on my card last season and never got charged a penny to do it. |
