I've had the pleasure of using both.
Personally, I prefer the i-pod, for the i-tunes facility, and ease of use.
Its one of the easiest ways to download (legally) tracks, and for 79p each, you cant really complain
Basically - they both do the same thing, so its up to you. |

I have a Sony Walkman but wouldnt use it on the slopes, not the sturdiest of things although 13000 tune capacity and 9 hours battery life makes it perfect for the trips to the slopes.
And 69p per track from MSN Music |

The i-Pod or i-Pod Mini are the market leaders (about 80% of all MP3 players sold are i-Pods), with hundreds of accessories available for them; they look realy nice, are simple to operate, work on Mac and PC and come in various sizes (but you'd struggle to get all of your songs on one).
You can play music burnt from your own CDs, or downloaded from the net, in AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR, Apple Lossless, WAV, AIFF or Audibl formats using the iTunes software supplied.
Check out http://www.apple.com/uk/ipod/
The new iPod Shuffles are really cool, come in two sizes (512Mb holding upto 120 songs, or 1Gb holding upto 240 songs in MP3 or AAC formats), and are about the size of a packet of chewing gum (no joke!) The best bit is they only cost £69 (512Mb) or £99 (1Gb)
Check out http://www.apple.com/uk/ipodshuffle/
I've had a 30Gb i-Pod for two years and love it to bits. Buy one. |

| I had an MP3 player until recently falling on it on my last trip and smashing it into the tiniest of pieces. I am over the moon. |

| Also have a look at some of the Creative devices, Zen and also Archos. Better functionality than the iPod, cheaper, but not as "hip". |

| a sick tree run, powder up to the nipples, trippy music (lucy in the sky with diamonds etc) ace, good hip-hop for the park. I love my ipod, and it makes me look cool (which is the real reason I snowboard!) |

I have used the creative MuVo 128mb flash player which takes a AAA battery, and now have the iPod Shuffle (1Gb) rechargeable.
Both require your laptop to update the tunes. Though 240 tunes on the shuffle might last you a week? I always have my lappy - so its not a hassle.
Both come in around 100 (though the MuVo was a few years back so it now has much more memory). With no moving parts both are super robust no matter your slam.
Couple this with headphones in the helmet Bad Lieutenant (has a handy mute button) and you are good to go!
"Outrage" - from Thomas Bangaltier's Irreversible soundtrack; playing as I wiped out in the cairngorms has been the most intense 'music + snow' moment for me. Shredded my knees after coming off full pelt avoiding a bloody skier. |

Me mate has the Zen one and loves it to bits. If its the one i'm thinkin of, little blue thing, then i personally think its much cooler than an i-pod. I've got a minidisc player though which I much prefer, like why people buy CD's. I like bein able to hold my music .
Does anyone know how to use minidiscs for data transfer btw? |

iPOD - pfft lemmings.. buy a device for its function, not its form!!
the Creative stuff is probably the best for sound quality, but iPOD look more "hip".. its in your damned pocket!!
I have a MPIO 1GB device with a 1GB SD card in it.. probably the sexiest solid state device around, but the sound quality is what shines... I bought it cuz it handles all music formats, and takes a SD card, so I can keep a base set of music on the player, and change my moods with SD cards... |

| I've had a creative zen 20GB jukebox for 3 years now. Whilst not as aesthetically pleasing as the I Pod it has beter sound quality and stamps all over it with battery life (& it's now heaps cheaper than a pod). I like making massive playlists & puting it on shuffle, you never know whats coming next. Oh yeah the pc software is a doddle to use & v fast with USB2.0 |

I've had an ipod for acouple of months and have to say they ain't all that. Not tried any of the others but i tend to use my old 64mb flash mp3 player more. Don't like having to fanny around through the ipod menu to find the song i want.
CD discman thats what you want with the old belt and case with built in cd holder combo! |
