Top tip!
i'm gonna try this with easyjet!
say two people are going snowboarding, put both boards and equipment in one board bag make sure you put enough stuff in it
so it weigh's as close 20kg as possible.
then share a large suitcase for the rest of your stuff make sure it weighs in at 20kg or less.
now then, now then
both passengers are carrying 20kg of luggage a should be able to check it in as hold luggage and there fore avoid the sports equpment cost.
hold luggage only ever reffers to weight and never gives any restriction on physical size!! so therefore a board bag can be checked in as hold luggage. happy days!
and remember, if you still need to take more! stuff your ruksacs and take them in hand luggage for free
good times |

That will never work.
Airline staff are not stupid - they will know it's a snowboard and as snowboards fall under the sports equipment charges, you'll just get charged at the airport. That will be a waste of the extra hold bag. |

so what if it's a snowboard it falls under the 20kg of allowed weight! what if you had a board bag full of clothes!!! they have to take it cus all restrictions are done on weight and not size!
buying the sports equip. just extends the amount of weight your allowed to take it from 20kg to 32kg the policy does not state what artifacts can and cannot be carried
and yes sleazyjet staff are stupid that's why their working for stelios |

Gina knows what shes on about.
Plus, lemme get this straight, you want to take a snowboard without the equipment charge?
They know its a snowboard as the bag is sliiightly longer than normal.
Its gonna get the extra charge either way! |

On top of that, easyJet do not have their own check-in staff - they use Menzies Aviation, so technically don't work for Stelios Plus he hasn't been the main man for a couple of years now if I'm correct.
What airport are you flying from by the way?
Good luck either way |

| BA aren't the cheapest but by the time you've added all the "extras" on theres not too much in it (well apart from potential strikes), came in about £10 more compared to the budget carriers.... anyway you can take 1 bag free of charge up to 23kg and that bag can either be a standard size- 90x75x43cm or a non standard size upto 190x75x65cm and that includes snowsports kit. As long as you dont over pack for your travels and fit as much as you can into your 2 allowed items of hand luggage you should be fine and you get much better service. |

| I still think easyJet is one of my favourite airlines - when you follow their system! Book during the sales and you've already saved yourself bags and snowboard carriage. |

hey gina g i'm going through the easyjet baggage policy with a fine tooth comb looking for floors and it doesnt refer to snowboards as sports equip.
i quote from the their very own website
Sporting equipment
Bicycles (1), golf equipment, and skis, surfboards, wind surfers, hang gliders, and firearms (2)
technically snowboards are not skis
and anyway the hold baggage policy does not refer to size (only weight) and there is nothing in it stating what artifacts can and cannot be carried. so you could take a coffin full of cricket bats as long as it's 20kg or under
why oh why is this more complicated than rocket science, i'll never know.
by the way flying from manchester!

yeah usually people want to take hold baggage and sports equipment..the reason they allow the wheelie bags is because they are declared as hold baggage and should be no more than 20kg(or other allowance)..
I opted for the sports equip seperate and my suit case is 19 kg (min is 18 ) and my board bag is packed with gawd knows what too..lol |

That works. As long as your boards are less than 55 cm in length!! |

Opps, no the 55cm was hand luggage. Ignore me I was an arse!!
I dont think it works though really.
However its far to say budget airlines are rubbish when it come top all these crazy charges.
If there cheaper, I'd go for BA or Virgin etc everytime. Appart from everything else 18 - 20 kgs is a rubbish weight limit for a boarding holiday!! |

yeah but if your heading out for a long wk/end i would of thought 40kg for two people should surfice.
i dont need to take the kitchen sink!
board and bindings gotta be 6 kg boots 4kg max (burton rulers light as prob. 2 kg) x 2 = 20kg good times
gives 20kg for your suitcase and a rucker for hand lug. i could live for a year with that much stuff
the worst comes to the worst wear your boots on the flight lol |

the only thing i can find in the terms and conditions that might throw a spanner in the works is
Conditions of Carriage Article 9.1(iv).
quote :
Baggage
9.1. Items Unacceptable as Baggage
(iv) items which in our reasonable opinion are unsuitable for carriage by reason of their weight, size or character, such as fragile or perishable items;
unquote
this is the only mention of size of luggage that i've ever come accross and then again it's just their reasonable opion
so i guess it all hangs on just on how much i can sweet talk the check in chick!
i'll must remember to comment on how nice her hair looks before i even give her my passport |
