I am hopefully going to be going to Whistler early next year for about 14 days and was wondering if I can get some info together from people that have been before or people that are 'in the know' >;o)
I know there is a Whistler thread already and have had a good read for most of the night but the site is a little slow and getting to the bits I actually need is taking some time.
I am after some key pieces of info so I can work out when to go and where to stay as well as any other top Whistler tips. So if I may be so bold . .
i) When is the best time to go? (Good fresh snow fall, etc)
ii) Where is a good place to stay?
iii) Are there any good packages available?
iv) Best place to hire gear from (well a board)?
v) Anything I need to be wary of (any pitfalls I should avoid)?
vi) Is a package deal best or should I hunt around and put my own holiday together?
vii) Advice on the best place to get a good deal on lift passes.
viii) And lastly, any useful web links where I can do some reading up would be very greatly received. The links can be for info or to sites that are good value for booking.
Thanks in advance and I hope that this isn't viewed as a duplicate posting.
Cheers,
Andy. |

Ummm can no one give me just a little help? I am only going for 2 weeks so it is nothing in comparrison to what most of you guys are doing (oh and I aren't jealous at all . . . . )
I just want to get some info on cheap flights, decent place to stay and the best place to get a lift pass for 2 weeks.
The Whistler thread is awesome but it is all for season/lomg term stuff.
Cheers,
Andy. |

I would say Canadian Affair for cheap flights..
I really can't comment about accomodation, you just need to look up the hostels. Southside lodge in Creekside looks cheap and cheery.
Lift passes, well you aren't really going to get a discount on them at all, but you can book online and get a small discount from the whistlerblackcomb.com website.
I can't give too much info, i haven't spent any time there except flights and the fact i have sorted season accomodation from seasonaires!!
Good luck. |

| I would love to help out, but I've only ever been to whistler for a season, so can't really comment on holiday places. Def try Zoom if you wanna go independently. Try also www.igluski.com for package deals. |

Hey Bigred!
Ok here goes,
i) Anywhen is good for Whistler, from Jan to late April, late Feb early March is my prefered time, never not had good snow then!
ii) Whistler has a fantastic free shuttle bus system so anywhere in the main town is great, Whislter Village can be a bit noisey late at night, I like the outlying condo areas, only 5 mins on the free bus, voila! The WB website has good maps so you can tell where you will be and which bus route you are on.
iii) Steer clear of UK package deals in general, they are V pricey, its so easy to book yourself!
iv) Just walk into the Carlton Lodge which is at the bottom of the lifts, done!
v) High prices in the food shops in the Village, stop in Vancouver to fill up.
vi) Deffo put your own one together.
vii) Book your accom, hire & passes through Allura Direct, save loads!
viii) I have used Allura for 4 years without problem, stick to propertys where you can book using the Allura online payment system (select that bit on the search page) As long as you pay for accom with them you get discount lift passes, especially prior to Nov 15th.
viiii) Look for flight sales from BA & Air Canada, I have never paid more than £415 for a flight to Vancouver.
x) Perimeter Bus is a good way to get to Whistler if you are on your own or a couple, over 5 peeps you are better getting a limo transfer with StarLimo, cheaper and you can stop in Vancouver for loads of beer and food and save loads in Whistler Village.

Hope that helps! |

Awww thats awesome guys and gals!!! Its my first proper winter away and I have sooo wanted to go to Whistler for a loooonnnggg time now.
I would love to go and stay for a season but family and work commitments mean I can't I might try to do 3 weeks there as that would be awesome but it all depends how far my savings will stretch.
I also need to buy new boots and a decent jacket. From reading the Whistler thread (still soooo much to read on it as only on page 33!!) it is best to buy out there - that sound like the best option?
Is anyone else heading out just for a jolly at about end Feb start of March time as so far it is me myself and I as my mates either have work or can't afford it
Thanks again especially to Snowgirl1324 for all the info. |

also greyhound buses for the transfer from van to whistler, they are cheaper, however they depart from pacific central, so youd have to some how get there with your gear.
Perimiter are prolly best if you have a lot of baggage. |

if this is your first snowboard/winter holiday I wouldnt bother going to whistler - you would be better off going somewhere in europe, alot cheaper and alot less hassle
wait til you can really appreciate whistler before going... I wouldnt bother going until you are comfortbale riding off piste and can tank it down red runs.... there are some great resorts in Europe at a fraction of the cost of whistler.... |

If i don't go whilst I have the cash now then I will just spend it. Plus its something I have always wanted to do, not just for the awesome snowboarding and sking but for the atmostphere as well.
Does anyone else think I should give it a miss and try Europe first and then maybe Whistler next year? I am worried now that I won't enjoy it if I do go? |

I'm off to Whistler with Mrs MagicalTrevor at beginning of February. Only my second boarding hol so looking forward to it (was at Belle Plagne in March, nice resort but hated the conditions).
Anyway, if you book with Zoom, use this code to get 20% discount: MM2007ZA.
Only valid if you book before 31.12.07. We've booked our flight with this so I can confirm it works.

Whistler is fab, even to learn in , by day 7 my mate, who had never boarded before was in flute bowl!
It is fantastic for advanced boarders but anyone will have a blast |

I can see where Dazzler is coming from mate, but you will have an amazing time in Whistler on and off the slopes. I don't know anyone who's been and not liked it, it's one of my fav resorts. The only moan i've ever heard is that it can be a bit on the expensive side.
If you've got the dosh GO FOR IT!!! |
