| it will always be hard to make people see that they get the service side of it when they go local, especially with the current economic climate. I for one, and im sure many others have got stuff from the mad Westbeach sales, for instance, instead of paying Ł90 for a pair of trousers at a local shop. |

I just thought i'd leave another quick post to say although i did "stick up" for them i have never used them and probably never will and as people have said i always support my local infact the only places i have bought new hard goods from has been SS20 in oxford and the locals in Fernie when i was out there (even though i could have got it 20% less from the US) and have actually just 2 weeks ago bought a slayblade from SS20.
My main gripe was the way the "warning" was put across rather than the fact that a warning was being given! Specifically using the word "fraud" without evidence and it being another shop.
Anyway, pretty much sorted now. |

Hi guys,
I’d like to introduce myself, my name’s Roman Blažek and I am owner of the AR SPORT SNOWBOARDS Company, which is operating the on-line store www.snowboard1.co.uk.
When I read the discussion bellow, I was a bit surprised and disappointed, why people deduce the facts without any own experience.
It’s truth that we are the Czech company, which doesn’t have a stone shop in UK, but that shouldn’t be the reason to convict the company with 12-year tradition in the market.
Some of the articles are written by the competition because of the low prices we offer to damage our reputation.
I can easily explain you the reasons why we can offer so cheap stuff:
Some of the brands are bought directly from the brand’s owner such as NIDECKER, SANTA CRUZ, TYROLIA, Matrix, some of the brands are bought form the distributers such as ROME (Czech distribution), FORUM (Czech distribution), NITRO (Czech distribution), DRAKE (Czech distribution), SP (Czech distribution), 686 (Czech distribution), QUIKSILVER (Czech distribution), ROXY (Czech distribution) and so on. We are distributors of the world famous brands such as SIMS, LAMAR and LTD and owners of two our own brands WESTIGE and GANG SNOWBOARD.
AR SPORT SNOWBOARDS sells more than 20 000 snowboards per year. This volume of the snowboards enables to get the boards much cheaper which is the second reason of the low prices.
All the products we sell are the first quality goods. There’re any fakes and any second hand goods. Every customer is able to claim the goods as it is bought in UK. It means there’s a standard 2-year guarantee.
Anyway I would like to thank our customers kindly for their support, especially Antonia, who pointed out these untrue comments. We are sending her a small gift – 80 GBP voucher , which could be use on www.snowboard1.co.uk.
At this moment we are preparing special VIP loyalty cards for our customers, who can buy the goods minus 20% and more. We will inform you about the cards on https://www.facebook.com/update_securit ... ARD1.CO.UK soon.
If you have any questions, comments or ideas do not hesitate to contact me.
Have a great day, Roman Blažek |

[quote="ChasKi"]Given the number of 'core' fan boys and girls that like to rear their heads whenever the importing discussion usually comes up, I'm really quite surprised at the backlash here.

i'd normally be sat next to branny on this one, but i dont see this as anything to do with indy stores, it looks more to me that one online reseller (who sells to different countries, I assume to try and undercut stores in that specific location) has been/is being undercut by another reseller doing exactly the same |

edited...to be fair...
i think we all know who are, are who arent the people that support the local scene.
I suspect that as belts tighten more and more of us are guilty of buying from the cheapest source.
i'd rather that the cheapest sources (be it SB1 or absolute) be one that we can at least communicate with on our favorite forum, so hello to SB1 |

does it matter if someone is regarded to use a local shop or not? Are they going to treat them any different? If so, then who's worse - someone willing to spend their cash in more than 1 shop or those tut-tutting at the customer for exercising his/her right to shop-around?
Now, that's different comment from "does it matter if someone supports a local or not" - I can fully understand and support the need for local shops and helping them out as much as possible - but it's that last (as much as possible) section that some seem to ignore.
My local is Subvert and I've spent a fair penny in there over the years buying at least a full set of gear apart from a board and that's only 'cos they don't stock Never Summer so I went to Born Extreme (another independent shop). But, I've also bought from Snow & Rock, TSA, TKMaxx etc. if I'm in a shop and see something I like the look of, at a price I think is reasonable, then I'm not going to put it back, drive miles to Subvert and then find they either don't have it (or not in my size) etc. It's convenient that Subvert is at CFe and I pop in there if they're open when I'm kicking about - if there's something I like then I'm tempted, simple as - it's just very cool that all the staff in their are ace and v helpful. I also recommend it constantly to anyone who asks where to shop or ask for advice.
I mentioned at the start of this that I've stumbled upon SB1 in the past as I was trying to find a 686 Snaggletooth jacket that seemed impossible to get in the UK and they had it (in my size). I didn't buy it in the end 'cos I realized they weren't a UK site and feared return-issues if there was a problem (cash covered by VISA, so that's not too much of an issue) - plus didn't need a new jacket, i was just window-shopping.
So, what happens with the "support your local" argument when the local doesn't stock what you're after? Are you honestly meant to choose a substitute and ignore your 1st choice?
Roman/SB1 - it's great you found this forum and are able to explain your business and side of the story. |

Just thought I'd let everyone know that snowboard1 are absolutely not frauds.
I ordered some K2 Yeah Yeah bindings from them the other day - I messed up my order and they replied and helped me within 30 minutes. The order was dispatched next working day as advertised, and it was on my doorstep via UPS 3 working days later.
The bindings are perfect - proper legit K2s. I've had problems ordering from some uk shops online before (wrong highbacks, 2 left feet - these shops shall remain nameless!) but no such problems with snowboard1.
Would definitely order from them again - thanks guys! |
