Hi guys,
Im having problems coming out of my BS boardslides regular. I can hit quite alot of features, the biggest being handrail on a stairset but i always come out fakie. On a long flat box i can come out regular but it still feels awkward. When i hit stuff which is faster, like gas pipes or steeper features i pretty much always come out switch?!
I think when im hitting it my right arm (im regular) comes round a bit, but even so when i try to make sure its down by my side or behind me i still have problems.
Any tips or suggestions that might help me?
Cheers

sounds like you're rotating instead of counter-rotating onto it... if you get me. As soon as the rear arm comes round past "straight" you're basically going to come out fakie (or spin it around for a 2-out).
Think of it as a shifty-movement instead of a spinning one - keeping torso pretty still and rotate the legs under you instead of leading with the shoulder.
it's cool that you're happy coming out fakie just work on the counter-rotation so come out regular and you'll be laughing |

| Like Dereks said sounds like you're not counter rotating correctly. So, bind up somewhere at home where you have some space to spin without whacking into stuff & practice ... keep your shoulders in line with your imaginary box/rail on the floor (stick a bit of paper or something down to help you be accurate) and spin your board 90 under you to land on the "rail", hold the "slide" for a bit then spin back to riding regular. That's how I cracked it. It gives you the muscle memory that folks always talk about so that when you actually line up for a box/rail you switch into auto-pilot and don't have to think too hard about what you're doing so you can concentrate on how fast you're sliding and where the end of the feature is instead. |

Ah i right i see, yeh im pretty sure that when im hitting it im leading with my shoulder, like you said rather than counter rotating like a shifty. Think that will help loads as my shiftys arent too bad. Yeh ill definitely try it static in my living room!
Cheers guys, ill let u know how i get on!

hey guys, did a bit of static practice and stuff, concentrating on just rotating my board and not leading with my shoulder, then hit landgraaf over the weekend and it made a world of difference! dont think i landed a single back board switch! Cheers for the tips!
Just gotta make sure i keep up with both now haha!
Cheers

great to hear it made a difference (and so quickly)
was thinking about it after I posted last time. If you approach the rail/box open (so shoulders already rotated downhill, like a back-side pre-wind, then you can't really spin into it but you almost have to counter-rotate to get the boardslide. If you've fixed the problem already then ace, but might be worth thinking about as a way to separate your approach for each of them.
these kinda body-movements are easy to practice on piste by ollying into a boardslide and pressing with the front/rear and then popping back out - muscle-memory for counter-rotation and rotation in/out of the 90 degree movement. (but obviously need to hold an edge when on-piste). |

Awesome! Glad we helped a bit. Like you say now you need to keep practicing both ways ... I stuck with practicing coming out regular for a session or two then lost it on coming out switch again So now I try to do a bit of both whenever I get the chance to keep my eye in |
