Hi all, new to the forum.
Had my first snowboard lesson last week. A 1 day course at tamworth snowdome. Started off sweet, going down backward/forward with a bit of side to side was dead easy. But then it came to doing turns and spent most of the time on my arse! Didn't help I spent a good two hours leading with my right foot and failing before finding left was better for me but was totally burnt out of energy by then.
Going to try and go again this weekend, Anyone got any advice which might help me get the turns? |

Hi and welcome. Practice, practice, practice, keep your weight forward and bend your knees. Don't worry it'll come but get used to spending half your time (at least at first) falling on your arse or your face  |

Can't agree with this enough - when I was learning I used to be really wary of falling on my ar5e cos I was just thinking about the pain it would cause, and would just be all tensed up. Bought impact shorts, fell heavily on my ar5e, realised it didn't hurt and instantly became so much more relaxed when boarding
Oh yeah, and as Corie said - practise, practise, practise, practise and more practise..... |

How to snowboard step 1-9
A surprising good series of videos in my opinion. You might have to fish around for them because they aren't very well organised.
I found that i finished my lessons and then went down to the slope on my own.
Now i've been riding for a few months apparently i've developed a fair few technical flaws. I got to the stage where i was happy to ride but no idea how i 'should' be doing it. I had my own technique that although worked didn't set me up well for progression.
I basically had no conception of the torsional flex of a board and i was breaking at the waist a lot.
So i think my advice to my friends who take up boarding will be to make sure they get themselves on a technical lesson after a few weeks to point them on the right track and give them the post beginners lesson info they'll need to take them forwards.
To a certain extent those videos have that and explained pretty well. |

Welcome to SCUK, and to possible the most addictive sport I have ever known
As said already, practice is everything! Can be frustrating at first but for it was one of those things that at some point just clicks and you start to wonder what all the fuss was about!
Watching videos online can help with some things. In my experience most boarders are quite friendly, get chatting to a few when you're on the slope and I'm sure they'd be able to give you some pointers (this quite often goes for the people that work in the domes too!)
Oh and impact shorts is a good shout, they've saved my ar$e a few times.

| Watch other good riders on the slopes. Take particular notice of their knees and shoulders. It's like riding a bike; suddenly it just clicks. Enjoy! |

thanks for the advice i'll see how I go on my next trip and if i can remember what I was tought.
I watched them youtube vids, god they were cheesy!! quite good though
Impact shorts look good, i really thought i'd bust my ass a couple of times but I'm not sure it hurt as much as the 90 quid out my wallet would! |

You don't need to spend anywhere near that. I got these and 2 seasons in they're still going strong. You can get even cheaper.

I was hooked from the first lesson even though I spent most of it on the deck.
When you've fallen off a few horses, boarding falls hold few fears. They can still hurt, though! |

nice one, i will get some of them shorts I was just going by the prices in the catalogue I picked up at the snowdome.
