| if i had the money and was a skier, id buy spyder, its an asspirational brand, same as if i could afford head to toe in Holden, i would. if you had the choice and money was no object, would you still buy cheaper? |

I defo wouldn't buy Spyder. They're not an aspirational brand to me - I've always hated their style, and not knowing anything about their tech, I'd always presumed it was just cruddy euro skier rubbish.
If I had all the money I could want, I'd still probably buy snowboard gear (At least for snowboarding in anyway...) I'd far rather Arc'teryx or North Face, or Berghaus, or Mountain Hardware or whoever as I;ve always preferred those styles to Spyder stuff. |

Cost and value are two different things. As John Ruskin said:
A thing is worth what it can do for you, not what you choose to pay for it.
I think a good rule of thumb when buying anything is to ignore the cheapest and the most expensive options. |

As do most Premier League footballers.
By that argument, a fake Rolex is worth £5,000 if that's what you paid for it.
Oscar Wilde's statement that "a cynic knows the price of everything and the value of nothing" still applies more today. We need to worry about more important things than who's got the most expensive kit.
Those Victorians knew a thing or two! |

Is, say a car, worth:
What you paid for it?
How much it would cost to buy another?
How much someone would buy it from you for?
How much you would lose without it?
How much money the asset generates?
And this is the point in my accounting degree where i effectively gave up. Because apparently the correct answer is yes to all of them. |

I'm not sure I understand the philosophy of discounting that sort of brand . I thought that the whole point is that it's supposed to be expensive. I for one won't be wearing it now I know that people half as rich as me can afford it too. Seriously, I'd have expected them to burn stuff they can't sell, so as to maintain their brand.
Rolexes? (spits) Watches which don't keep time and which you have to wind up. Or buy a machine to wind up! The gold jobbies with the diamonds are hideous. |

I'm now working for Arcteryx here in Canada.
Got to say you do get what you pay for. Next season I'll be wearing one of our jackets as the tech is different level.
Sadly they don't do baggy pants here. |

I think the sale is 2012/13 samples only, hence the low price; though I acknowledge the point about it surprising that they're selling even this limited amount of kit at 50% off vs maintaining the brands high profile image.
On the subject of Russians - I always thought Spyder was one more for the rich North American types (isn't it a Canadian brand?) Oh and bankers of course. The Russians I saw on my one lunchtime visit to Courcheval tended to wear either Prada or Bogner.....
And yeah, Rolexes are utter bobbins - generally seen on the wrists of used car salesman, footballers and drug-dealing Range Rover drivers. Not that I am stereotyping at all here.... |

Last year was a tough year for outerwear sales, places like sports pursuit, brand alley etc are a good way of shifting some stock, besides they don't buy it all, they only buy what they sell after the campaign , no risk. They must be struggling if they can't shift samples in the normal channels. Obviously Oscar Wilde and Ruskin are not buying spyder jackets huh. Your right though selling next winters samples at 50% off seriously damages your brand. Times are tough in winter sports, so you can't blame them |

Next season is all about the crushed velvet smoking jacket. Check out Westbeach's range, they are, erm...smokin'! And those pillbox hats with the little tassle. An addiction to laudanum is optional. |

| I assume the pockets in spyder jackets/ trousers are massive. So you can fit all your money in them. |
