Hi,
Just wondered if anyone has heard any news about Snoasis. I thought planning permission was granted and that they were starting on this, but can't seem to find any info anywhere.
Cheers |

yeah, I have a feeling the whole thing is going to go, if it hasn't already, tits up! Planning permission was granted early last year, but with a load of conditions in place.
I kept hearing stories that the companies behind Snoasis were going into liquidation, and I wouldn't be surprised if things have stopped altogether.

Snoasis have their own website but this hasn't been updated since Feb last year.
Even the anti-snoasis people have been quiet since MAy last year, so things don't look good! |

Blimey, forgotten about this. How long has this been "in the making" now?
Still fingers crossed for the Cardiff sports village for me. Pretty much identical distance there as Tamworth is, and I know Cardiff well.
News has been disappointingly quiet on that front too mind. |

| I think one of the funding companies or backers was a victim of the financial crisis, but we were receiving emails from an un0named source saying it was all still on. I'll email the developer now and see what the score is. |

I assume this is the site where it will/may be based. Seems something has been done if that's the case. The google watermark does say 2008. Not sure if that corresponds to when the picture was taken. |

i mean i agree with their point. Tokyo is now a desert town....
And it will destroy the wildlife from your disused quarry
And of course a ski instructor is a no qualification minimum wage job..
and this picture on their site http://tiny.cc/rmbe3
I believe they're trying to keep it low and wait till it's open then hype it up. And no it says it's a landfill |

| Given that it's hard to get a mortgage to buy a house these days, imagine how hard it is to get finance to build something this big and risky! I wouldn't say it's definitely off (I believe they're still working on it) but I can't see it happening until financing gets a lot easier. |

| They also said that the price of energy has doubled while the price of flights to the alps have halved... that made me chorttle since the price of both commodities are linked fundamentally to the same source... oil... and i think anyone that has flown to the alps in the last 18 months will agree that the prices have gone rite up. |

It has been announced (early Jan '11) on both local radio and regional tv that building will start very shortly. Part of the problem was that caused by the economic crisis. One of the backers was an Irish bank so they had to find that portion of the money elsewhere. Another was the problem with the permissions granted from HM government. Permission is normally granted for a large project and then plans are submiited piecemeal for the construction of the respective buildings. The way the permissions where given said that all plans must be submitted for the WHOLE site before commencement. That is not the way a large project works, so they had to go back to HM Government to get some of the wording changed to allow for piecemeal construction. The wording has been changed and also a park operator (from USA) secured. I have met Mr Spanner at business functions and he is ADAMANT it will be built.

That's good to hear indeed. Even though it's miles from where I live, this is the kind of developments you need in order to stimulate the industry.
Snowoasis concern needs to move with the times and realise that a development of this kind can bring huge economic advantages. |

| I would like to see a place like this built but near Ipswich? Always thought that was quite a difficult place to get to as there are no motorways... wish it was somewhere a little easier to get too. |

Plymouth? -
We have the best Rail in England... Scrap that, 5hrs to london
We have the best Airport in England... Scrap that, they are stopping our london flights
We have the best Road link..... Damit, snow stops us at holden hill....
At least we have the ..... arse's!
For us down here in the southwest (plymouth) our quickest fridge is 220 miles away. - the closest is MK
Why dont they develop something like that down here. We only have a shabby carpet nailed to a hill :/
I do hope the people that protest realise that they are so short sighted.. there kids will moan there is no jobs, no-where to go etc if this is not built. - Perhaps 80% of the country will not use it, but at least there is a facility here in the uk that we could be proud of! - until we see the ticket prices lol
Anyway... |
