After starting boarding at xmas and picking up my first board a week ago, I hit up CFe last night (nipping into Snow and Rock beforehand to grab a helmet) for my first taste of some park stuff....wow, how much fun??
I took a couple of runs down the slope first to get my eye in (as I'm mentally a better boarder than I am physically haha) and tried the smallest box right at the bottom of slope...fully expecting a slam of painful proportions I found it fine doing 50/50's coming off the little ramp up to it....as I figured, as long as you're carrying the speed and line it up right there's not much to go wrong, and it felt wicked. I avoided the temptation to try boardslides as coming off looks like it can HURT.
There were 3 kickers, small, medium and large, and although I had a few sketchy landings I had the small kicker nailed for basic jumps, managing to stay on my feet each time. Full of maybe too much bravado I went for the medium kicker...felt good on the approach, take off was fine, confidence was up then somehow I was inexplicably horizontal in mid air and came to land with a bit of thud on my well padded arse...ego more bruised than anything I decided I should maybe avoid the bigger jumps for a while!
Has loads of fun and it's so totally addictive, can't wait to get into more park stuff. Really need to get some practice in riding switch, so I can take off for, or land, my first 180. It's difficult to do as there's little space in a dome so when I'm away at Easter I'll be giving it a good go and will hopefully come back with a bit more skill. The vibe was really good and there were loads of friendly people there, plus there were some really dope boarders pulling some wicked tricks off the big kicker....can't wait until I'm good enough to come off it!! |

Had my first propper freestyle night aswell last night at Tamworth, first time on new board aswell.
boy is it addictive ! i just about nailed everything, the battleship was a monster, about 6M long, first rail was even, second massivly leaning right, and the end rail slightly right !
got the 180's off the kicked nailed landing switch, was so so close to landing my first 360 but ran out of time, does a 330 count for owt ?
managed a 180 off the end of the humble rail, only the once though.
can they leave the park gear out permanently, pleaseeeeeeeeee |

| Hey Adverse, glad to hear youve got the freestyle bug, what you need to do at cfe is get to know Sam and all the guys in Subvert, its a pretty cool scene in there, they will ride with you and youll be amazed at how quick you nail some difficult tricks, not many of the dope riders, as you put it, will be about this week as their out at the Brits but most will be back next week, come and say hi(just ask for Jordys dad) and some one will point me out to you. Catch ya soon......... |

All the more reason for us not so dope riders to go and not feel the unintended pressure of being so sh1t. I for one will be there on Wednesday and Friday being as dope as I can be
Adverse you'll have to say hello next time you go, think you joined the facebook group as well judging from your avatar. Don't forget, once the freestyle bug creeps in theres no stopping it. |

| @bruceg and m0nks - nice one, will give you both a shout when I'm next heading over. Probably not for a couple of weeks now as I've got stuff on next week and I'm away over Easter, but it would definitely be good to hook up with some more experienced riders. Yeah joined the FB group as none of my mates board - not for want of me trying to get them into it though! Just need to get the practice in and get the confidence up on the basics and go from there. As for the Brits, came to it a little late for this year but I think me and my bro are gonna try to make it next year - hopefully by then I'll have learnt a trick or two! |

So an overall recommendation for freestyle nights then?
Been riding for a few years now, but never had the bottle to go along to one of the SnoZone nights - mainly down to thinking I'm too old, not good enough, and that so many people will laugh themselves to death at my efforts |

| A lot of people spend most of the time on their ass, just go and take it easy or do one of the Sno Acadmy's. |

Not sure if they do it at the snowzones, but the snowdome at tamworth do a beginner ramp night, where they put just 2 or 3 rails/boxe's/jumps out, and then have an all out freestyle night where they fit everything out they can/feel like !
on the beginner ramp nights, you'll have no probs, as everyones generally in the same boat.... and if your really lucky, you can time it right and go the afternoon of the beginner ramp night, and the stuffs already out for a normal session, with praticly no one there, and even less using it ! |

| hey Martin, you wont need to worry about people laughing at your efforts dude you will find at most domes that the more experienced riders are quite patient with newbies and will offer up advice if you ask them so get yourself down to the next one and enjoy it, as some of the other guys have said earlier you will soon have the freestyle bug....... |
