Just a quick note to say thanks to everyone who offered advice on buying a snowboard, what I should be looking at and how best to go about it. I learnt a lot from you guys and would have been pretty lost without the advice....so far as to say I may well have made the wrong decision, or at least come away with a worse board than I could have got. I appreciate you get asked these sort of questions on more or less a daily basis so thanks for taking the time to help.

So now I have my own board.....got an Omatic Wiggle Stick with Rome 390s bindings, it's super dope and I'm made up with it.

The two best tips I got (from several people) were:

1) You MUST demo a board to know if it's right for you
2) You don't necessarily need a board listed as 'beginner' if you're just starting out - it's wise to look at a softer flexing board if you're a beginner, but the bottom line is it's all about how it feels.

...as an example on point 2, TSA list the Wiggle Stick for 'Good to Advanced' riders. I'm neither of those and can ride it just fine.

So for anyone else looking for their first board, heed the above!

Nice gear you've got there. Have you ridden your new set up yet, not just demo'd?

tbf I think your brave hitting the freestyle night having only been boarding for such a short amount of time. I have been boarding around 10 years with the odd break and only just feel ready to get into the freestyle side. I suppose everyone is different though, I'm going to do one of the courses at Cas I think and do it that way but let me know how you get on.
Nice set up by the way, enjoy it.

You're probably right.....to be honest I've no idea whether I'll try any of the freestyle stuff yet...I'm going for the sake of my bro really who wants a go (and I want to get on my new board asap!), so I'll most likely just use the slope to get some practice in. I'll size up the stuff and if I feel confident I'll have a shot....I'm particularly fond of self preservation so unless I'm fairly certain I'll be ok I'll be steering well clear.

I reckon with a ramp up I could have a go at a boardslide, as long as the rail wasn't too thin or high, and some low-ish jumps will be fine I'm sure. I went off a low jump at Cas last week and it was ok. Despite only doing a bit of snowboarding I do feel at home on one....can only assume it's the years of skating I did as a kid. Yeah I fall off a fair amount, but that's just what happens I guess.

I started to ride in january, and hit my first freestyle night 2 weeks after learning, and no one who didn't know how long i had been riding has ever commented that i look unstable or any different to anyone else.
