I recently sold some snowboard stuff on eBay. To up the bids I decided to offer any SCUK member a 10% refund on the cost of goods should they win.
As we don't have any issue with people posting their eBay listings in this forum, how would other people feel about optionally offering the same deal to members? You can tell who's a member from the coloured icon in the forum, so all they'd have to do is say they'd won in the forum and perhaps PM you their eBay account name, so you could verify.
So, SCUK members will bid a little higher hoping to get that 10% off. That would drive the price up and if a non-SCUK member wins, the seller may have made a little more because of inflated bids.
Would be a great addition to SCUK I feel. How about everybody else?
If this proves popular I'll introduce it formally in the forum now and eventually build it in to the new website as a stand alone applications at some later phase. |

Yeah, I think it's a pretty good idea.
Would definitely need to streamline the process though for it to catch on forum-wide, I think! |

| Works for me.................................but.............................people pulling eBay adds with bids to sell to people on here off of eBay is against the rules of eBay (I think) so you might need some ground rules around that? |

Thats my point, SCUK would need to be clear on that, as they may get hunted by eBay CORP |

I don't think Dunx is saying to end auctions early. If a SCUK member wins the auction, instead of paying through eBay via paypal (for example) you pay the seller directly through Paypal (after confirmation from the seller that they acknowledge you are a full member of the site) the auction final price minus the 10%
it doesn't effect the eBay T&C's as it's a private agreement between the seller and the winner, but bare in mind eBay will still charge you the fee based upon the full sale price. |

I know that he's not saying that, all I am saying is that SCUK need to lay ground rules, the temptation might be to end early if its a SCUK member to save the eBay fee's or something |

I can't imagine that eBay have not got this covered in their Terms and Conditions.
I would check it out very carefully first... |

If the idea isn't killed by the small print then I think its a good one.
Will sellers be expected to (or instructed not to) post the fact they are an SCUK member and their SCUK username on the sale listing? |

I can't see how ebay can stop this happening? After all, paypal isn't the only method of payment and as a consequence eBay will never know. Plus, why would they care? As long as they get their fees it doesn't matter to them if the seller gives 10% back to the buyer privately/gets paid 10% less.
I also can't see how SCUK can get into trouble for it as it's an optional thing and, as long as they don't advocate ending auctions early (and thus taking trade away from eBay) there shouldn't be a problem. If anything, it might create more profit for eBay as higher sale prices lead to increased fees.
Seems pretty win/win for SCUKers & eBay.
Edit: I guess eBay could consider it unfair to other bidders and take issue with it on the grounds that it's manipulating sale prices, but ehh.. |

So as well as ebay taking 10% and paypal 5% at the end of the auction I also give fellow SCUK members another 10%..........
........its a good idea, but my starting price will go up |
