| One thing I would say is how about centre the drop down menus. There is a gap on the left but not one on the right. |

it looks a bit like facebook...was that part of the plan?..i guess maybe yes with the profiles and stuff coming...
fixed width is nice though...keeps it clean, be nice to get the recent headlines and community above the google ads though.... |

I didnt really like the screenshot dunx put of what the new website would look like but now its fully on the site i think its great! alot cleaner making it easier on the eye.
It would be even better if the "recent headlines" and "community" were above the adverts or maybe on the right hand side. |

It's very 'pastel'...the 'harsh' red and blue have largely gone. I think that's a plus.
Fixed sizes breaks accessibility guidelines...but I guess a site dedicated to an extreme sport isn't trying to attract people with disabilities. |

If you can't find enough naked women already on the internet then you seriously have something wrong with you. |

Hello all, I must stress that this simple re-design is to change what was becoming a very dated design and many friends (out side of the snowboard world) say that it looked very messy and difficult to understand what was going on. Once we've sorted the new content and usability of this site out we'll be doing a FULL redesign which will have an effect on page content. Currently all we've changed is the header section and colour of the blocks and title fonts. Its a simple change but think its much more effective in drawing your eye to the main content.
A few comments about the fixed width aspect. I've been wanting to do this for soo long, controling the layout of a site is important for the usuablitly of the site. Its actually easier for people to read shorter sentences than looooong ones and also with images inserted allows us to present it in a much better way.
I'd like to share part of our google analytics, to show you what we decided on some of the changes:
Screen Resolution
1. 1024x768 27.77%
2. 1280x800 27.57%
3. 1280x1024 16.50%
4. 1440x900 8.94%
5. 1680x1050 5.50%
6. 1152x864 2.78%
7. 1920x1200 2.03%
8. 800x600 1.38%
9. 1600x1200 1.21%
10. 1280x768 1.20%
98.62% OVER 1024 SCREEN WIDTH
Browser
1. Internet Explorer 56.01%
2. Firefox 32.29%
3. Safari 10.06%
4. Opera 1.08%
5. Mozilla 0.26%
6. Playstation 3 0.09%
7. Konqueror 0.07%
8. Netscape 0.04%
9. Playstation Portable 0.03%
10. NetFront 0.03%
Operating System
1. Windows 84.36%
2. Macintosh 13.68%
3. Linux 0.86%
4. iPhone 0.45%
5. iPod 0.19%
6. SymbianOS 0.17%
7. (not set) 0.13%
8. Playstation 3 0.09%
9. Playstation Portable 0.03%
10. SunOS 0.02%
cheers

With regards to moving the latest forum posts up to the top... this isnt going to happen. We understand that many people use the forum but unfortunately it doesnt pay the bills Our insurance at the top is a great source of income for the site and something we've worked on for a few years to ensure snowboarders get valuable cover.
The advert space is set to display paying adverts (which are more valuable "above the fold" i.e. as soon as you come onto the page you see them without having to scroll down), when no paying adverts are available it displays google ads, which are relevant links to the page content so hopefully of some use.
Hope this helps and you don't mind scrolling down that little bit further for a service you are mostly using for free...

| It's a good start, I will look forward to seeing phpBB3 in use though, with more customising of the standard features. |

It's just the software that runs the forum pages. Check the bottom:
"Powered by PNphpBB2 © 2003-2006 The PNphpBB Group"
PN stands for PostNuke, which is a bit of server software, PHP stands for Hypertext Pre-Processor which is a bit more software that translates stuffe into what you read, and BB is short for Bulletin Board. V is for version, but I reckon you got that one ;) |
