Yeah if you have a Nationwide account and aren't working I wouldn't bother getting a Canadian bank account as usually you have to pay a monthly fee, plus you only get a limited number of free transactions a month, any extra transactions and you are charged a fee. Using any rival bank's cash machines also gets you a fee.

On a side note if you have a Nationwide card then RBC will charge you to use their cash machine; it's either $1.50 or $2.00 I can't remember. If you walk over to the Marketplace, TD Canada won't charge you to use theirs. Could save you alot of money over the course of a season.

Dont buy any equipment in aus just wait till you get ot canada way cheaper.

also aus trialian banks have the most rediculous fees ever.

and for anyone without a job. I would just keep your moeny here and use a flex account

the only thing better than that is watching the market at least daily and changing when were particulaly storng but then you still have fees to deal with so not really worth it.
naitonwide is market rate with no loading/fees.

My credit score is pants so no chance nationwide would give me an account.

All though for others benefit do you know what are the actual exchange rates given by nationwide are like when withdrawing a?

For example, I just bought via XE 6675 CAD @ 1.91 where as the best rate via banks/currency exchanges I could find was 1.86. Which is a huge saving but then thats for buying big amounts of cash and not for small transactions like the odd $50 here and there if you were doing it day by day.

So yeah my plan is to open an an account with a bank in whistler and once a month buy a large lump sum on XE and transfer it over to my Canadian account.

EDIT: nevermind loki just posted the answer on the other page!

Also if you're not working you can go into a Canadian bank and use a Visa Cash Advance to get extra money out over and above a daily maximum. I did that a couple of times at the start of last season with my Visa Debit card from Nationwide and got the same rate as I would on purchases and withdrawals with no fee. Obviously you can only do this if you have the money in your account to start off with! I used both RBC and TD for this.

Personally if you're not working I don't see any point of opening a Canadian account to trade money into to save maybe 1-2% on currency conversions, over a Nationwide account, as any savings you do make will more than likely be overshadowed by the monthly fees to have the Canadian account. If you're working it's a different story as you have to have a Canadian account anyway.

EDIT: If you don't have a Nationwide account then it would be a very good idea to avoid a lot of the fees and crap rates.

you dont need a CAD account though Denizen you can tranfer straight into your landlord or other parties CAD account meaning you get the 2% + rate and no bank account fee.

Didn't have one last season. As for someone being out there for the season you know where to go to get discounts with needing a card.

Ahh I see, you're on about a very select few and specific application and I thought you were on about everyone using it. Fairy Muff.

In some places but in other they have deals on in the week like Merlins where there is a $5 burger in mid week and you wont find anything cheaper then that with a discount card.

One of the best deals is at brandy's you get a beer and a beef dip for $12 between 3-5pm i think..........Belfast do I get commission or a free for the plug Laughing

Just remembered there is a card you can pick up that give you discount in places like GLC and other mountain owned places. I don't mean your season pass, that only gives you discount on the mountain.

Not a kick on the a*s off 1.94 now guys. Meaning you can lock in a good rate before the expected blip on Friday.

Might use my Nationwide credit card and get the condo paid off today when its that rate then. I can always transfer it to the capital one no interest card once the mess is cleared up.
