Evenin!
Right, I need a new board and I need some advice...
I want something to play on, a jib board, something that i can butter on, play in the park and generally act 20 years younger on. ahem
Ive been looking at...(and in no particular order)
Ride DH
Bataleon Evil Twin
Burton Dominant
Burton X8
to name but 4 of a list that seems ever increasing...
Anyway, any advice on buyin such a a stick would be proper helpful!

Hey mate ive just updated my pages for all the new TECHNINE product, but even better follow this link to the feedback pages from the industry board test in May where all the mags and shops came out to test next seasons kit and see what people had to say about our kit http://www.oneloveofboardsports.com/boardspecs.html (no jibs were tested as its been re design for production)
Three options to choose from depending on what you want the board for, I know you said JIB but do you want a pure JIB board that wont really handle anything other than rails and hits or something that is a bit more in between.
Check these examples (and follow this link to each of the pages) http://www.oneloveofboardsports.com/products.html
TECHNINE JIB - £ 225, eactly what it says this season its pure JIB and nothing else, all the tail, nose and stiffness has been stripped out of it so its purely a board to just JIB with, this would be like a second board to ride the parks and UK slopes with.
MFM Signature Classic Park Board - £ 225, this comes in a mid wide so it sits nice on rails and easier to stomp heafty landings with and ideal for beginners to start hitting the park. It has a softer nose and tail, with a stiffer mid section, which sets it up for the park, but you could also ride the mountian all day on it aswell. This is my choice as I cant rave on about this board enough ! its price, its construction, its feel, its all perfect
TECHNINE TEAM 149.5 - £ 300, these are the ultimate JIB boards, each team riders gets four sized boards to ride every part of the mountain and the 149.5 are JIB specific, they have Carbon inserts to give them a huge pop, huge stance options, and are a mid wide so even the size 12 footer can JIB the whole mountain. This is a JIB board for intermediates to edvanced to kill the parks with, but just as at home on backstreet rails and cat tracks. |

Are you looking for pure jib or something that can handle a piste now and then.
Good Noodles:
Ride Kink
Rome Artifact
K2 WWW
Salomon Sanchez
Forum Eddie Wall
Good Park Sticks that can Jib:
Rome Graft
Ride DH
K2 Darkstar
Option Mirror
Sapient Evo
Amazing Sticks that require a bit more effort:
Never Summer Evo
K2 Jibpan
Ride Society
Option Forecast
I hate Burton hardgoods as they break more than Turbo and Ozone, Bataleon's have slow bases, and Lib Tech's construction methods leave something to be desired. That being said, I like everything I've heard about Signal and a few of the NA guys have been in my ear about them so I'll give them a thumbs up unless a demo proves otherwise. |

Grill's post is pretty spot on there.
I have a Burton Dom and the reason I bought it was solely for jibbing around fridges, and being nice and cheap and tearing it up and not worrying about it snapping, I have to admit it's done the job well. Technine Jib is luurvely and soft, if I'd tested one before I got my Dom I have to admit I'd have had the Jib. Not to mention that this seasons looks bonkers.
The Artifact is sick, it's as soft as the Dom in the nose and tail plus it's a true twin (where the Dom is a directional twin, so it's a little more stable on the piste) so buttering is made stupidly simple. I was a bit jealous of the 3degree edges so I took a vice and file to my Burton down to match, I looked everywhere to find one when I was buying mmy board but to no avail. Rome also do a aboard called the Machine which is a little different which you may wanna check out.
My buddy who I go boarding with bought an 07/08 Rided DH DFC and I rode it a few times, personally I didn't like it, although it did have a bit more of a stable edge but I think my Dom is a bit better in the park.
K2 WWW has 'Hybrid-edge something or other', which apperently means you can ride a smaller board and it still be stable. Not tried it myself, this years WWW is being made available with a Rocker Base (As is the Rome Artifact) for a limited time, before being made into a production model later in the year. Bataleon Evil Twin is supposed to be a mad Jib-stick, as with the Triple-Base-Technology, the sides of the board are raised away from the pow, meaning way less chance of catching an edge.
And I'm bored of typing now. |

So very true.
Atomic Hatchet is cheaper than most boards mentioned and will do the job perfectly. |

People dont really pay attention to the base when buy jib boards, but I think its pretty key thing to think about especially for a first jib board as it will get trashed on rails.
If you dont know what im talking about
SINTERED is in short, loads of little grains of Ptex squashed into a mold (alot more goes into it but thats the idea) its ideal for holding wax so good for going fast and getting over the flat spots on the piste.
EXTRUDED is Ptex melted into a mold, so there are less or no holes, but fixes really easily as you can virtually melt your own piece of ptex into a groove, so ideal for jibbing where the base is going to come into contact with rails.
Sintered bases are faster and hold the wax better, and they will last a lot longer on Dry Slopes, (if your going to be riding alot of dry slope its worth paying a few more quid ajd getting a Sintered base). But they dont fix easily, cut out a chunk on a rail and its more messing than an Extruded base, and you will find that a shop fixes it with an extruded piece. And from my experience the piece pops out after a few more sessions in the park as they dont bond well.
Extruded have come along way since they first came out and alot of brands like the one I work for (TECHNINE) but also RIDE and K2 now use a stone ground version which holds the wax better, ive waxed my MFM once since May and I ride it in the domes every week and it still doesnt drag at all. And we also didnt have anyone at the boardtests complain about a slow base, so I know it works really well.
But the key thing with Extruded is they are so easy to fix, and because its going to hit alot of rails I would deffinately look for an extruded base to start off with, as its easier to melt a new piece of Ptex into an extruded base, plus there generally cheaper so ideal for a first jib board.
Just something to think about |

You know, all 5 boards that I have for sale would do exactly what you want quite nicely.
Society is a DH on steroids. More pop, quadratic sidecut (quicker on its edge), and better off-piste.
Forecast rides almost Identical to the Society. It's a bitter quicker on the piste though, which may be a bit unnecessary.
Hatchet is the reference for all-around performance at a bargain price. Iy's the only one that isn't a true twin, but you hardly notice when you're riding.
Both the Graft and Arnie 5000 are complete screw-around boards. Loads of fun in the park and even easier to butter and press than the above boards. They can still take the whole piste without losing composure, although they won't be as quick or as responsive.[/end sale pitch] |

Cheers fellas - yet again excellent advice!
I'm liking the sound of the Technine boards actually! Will have to try to get a demo on one.
All your comments are really appreciated though! |

Nice one TOFFA, where are you based ?
Im going to try and set SUBVERT up with as many test models as I can, as they are the only independent store thats right on the snow. So if you can get to Manchester ill make sure they have what you want to test. Alternatively, if you live miles away let me know a few stores local to you and I will see what magic I can pull.
If you (or anyone else reading this) wants any more info on TECHNINE then let me know, and if I dont know I know a few people who will. |

| The signal park is where it's at. I had the forum Jiblet (when it was a forum board, not burton) and the signal compares favourably. I guess it depends what type of jibbing you're really into but i found the signal ideal for flatland spins and I think when you're nollie-ing etc it's best to have a true twin, makes switching it up so much easier then a directional freestyle. It is after all about the centred stance for jibbery pokery. |
