Hey everyone, this is my first post on here, just got into boarding loads after winter hol and bought myself a board and now board more than surf which I never thought I'd say.

Anyway, ive caught the bug and developing my style... or lack of it. Im fine on my feet, it's just i seem to do this funny thing with my arm where i lift it up and end up riding with a comedy limp wrist and i look like a right muppet. I reckon im thinking about it too much but has anyone got any tips of how to perfect your style?!

and ive only just realised i am doing this after someone videod me at chill factore, i thought the ladies were checking me out, but apparantly they were looking at my limp wrists....

any ideas?

I think the best way to develop your style is just by riding loads, but mainly, filming yourself. That way you can see what you like, and what you wanna change:)

welcome to scuk Beer

just relax and over time i would think the way you hold your body when riding will change from trying too hard to not thinking about it and arms down.

yeah, as lez says, it's totally about time on the board. My arms used to be all over the place, but, as far as I know, they know just kinda sit there by my side most of the time and do what they're told!

Your limp wrist is known as the handbag arm! Try riding with your arms by your sides.

remember when you where young....your parents used to sew a piece of elastic between your mittens in winter and thread them up your sleeves??? well do this but with industrial strength elastic and make it slightly too short.... thus stopping any form of un-demanded hand gesture!!

or maybe it's your inner gay trying to escape and let the world know!! Razz

Nah seriously don't worry about it...if people have got nothing better to do than point at others and pick fault, if their not your coach stick 'em the finger...all the hand actions and flapping will improve over time as you improve.

I think everyone does this when they're learning. What helped me was trying to ride with my hands behind my back. Once I was happy doing that I found it easier to keep my hands down!

I most commonly see the back arm waving around. This is mostly used to aid turning due to too much weight being on the back foot. People need to shift their upper body to create a turn.

If that is the case then maybe hold your pants with your back hand. Not too obvious and helps loads. You can also hold a ski pole with your wrists against your hips. Looks weird, but really gets you to focus on getting your weight forward.

You can also practice one foot straight glides and trying to balance 1 footed on your board in a straight glide. Good fun and works that front foot more.

Once you have those dialled you should feel more confident and turning should be easier and more relaxed.

Less is more in this game.

See ya.

i cant think about giving someone the bird, my arm and not falling over at the same time!??! maybe its just my inner gay, it would make sense about the handbag arm though- cause i always hold my handbag in that hand! Rolling Eyes

cheers for the advice everyone!

Take both hands and grab your jacket with them. Sides are best, though some prefer either the front (think above trouser pockets) or the back (above bum cheeks).

Hands/arms are a great indicator for when people aren't balanced on their boards. If you prevent the arms from moving, it'll help you get into a more balanced stance. Once that's sorted, you'll find the arms will be more behaved.

I was just gonna say that! Grab your trousers around where the pockets are - or wherever feels most comfortable. It's slightly easier to recover from a fall than when you're holding a ski pole!

Anyway.... Having anything to do with ski equipment is even gayer than shredding with a limp wrist! Laughing

When I was learning I was told to hold my pants. This got the message into my head at an early stage.

Remember snowboarding is all about style!
