SCUK Bash - December 2011 Early Bash

docw - Aug 21, 2011 - 11:29 AM
Post subject: December 2011 Early Bash
Rather liking the look of the early bash, can finally come on one. Working in a school means plenty of hol, just never when the bash and other trips go away but already know I will be off for this.

Just had a look at flights though and can't find sweet fa to chambery that early in december....I know it's early days but what sort of travel arrangements are likely?

[Dunx - tweaked the title]

when does chambery re-open then? I'd have thought it would have opened the beginning of december or something Confused
docw - Aug 21, 2011 - 09:33 PM
Post subject:
not the foggiest, tried last minute and cheap flights and nothing from any london, or east mids, to chambery before I think weekend of 18th december.

Going to have a peak see when the eurostar starts running.

Could just be that the schedules aren't up and about yet or something.

Post subject:
thast's a noope on the ski train, that only runs from 17th, over night onw from 23rd.

None of the tour operators seem to be going out before the 17th either.

Fly to geneva, it's almost impossible to get transfers from chambery to val anyway even if you could find a flight.
CjKit - Aug 21, 2011 - 11:11 PM
Post subject:
Yeah, I've always flown to Geneva when going to Val D'Isere.

or get the eurostar to paris and change for the tgv to bourg at maurice. it's what i'm thinking of doing. no prices up yet though - i think you can only book 120 or 90 days in advance on tgv so can't see the whole journey yet.

I've checked my report dates and I can have this week off work if I want so I'm interested to know more details... Although is there likely to be snow early december? never been away that early before...

I've been away that week every year for the last 4 years and there's always been enough snow, you wouldn't describe it as epic snow but more than enough for a good time Smile Val D is also much higher than any of the resorts I've been to that week so it shouldn't be a problem.

The whole of the Espace Killy will be open by then, has opened around the 5th December every previous year i can remember.

4 years ago I went to Val d'Isere second or third week after it opened, snow was brilliant. Even if it's not as good this year, there is always the glacier so you are guaranteed something Smile (even if it is ice and therefore not easy to stop yourself ploughing into a group of children traversing the slope)

You make a habit of that Dave!!! Very Happy

I have a weeks holiday left before end of year. Unless I can convince the missus to exchange sand and sun for snow and snow it's unlikely.

Really liking the sound of this. Will be working (not at Uni) this year, so it's possible I might actually be able to make it to a bash as won't be limited by normal holiday timings etc, plus the 11th is my Birthday.. so I think I should go really!

When we getting the next info update on this?

Could do with info on transfers, when payments due, accommodation room type etc. so that I can pass it on to my mates.

Zoideyno, you could always split up with her for a week? I'm trying to decide which bash to do. Early bash is a LOT closer Smile

The latest on this is
Quote:
Val’D’Isere “Early Bash”
http://www.snowboardclub.co.uk/events-eb11.html
1/ Additional option to include a B&B hotel
I am still waiting to hear back from our suppliers with some bed options that aren’t Jardin de la Balme. I have just emailed them to chase it up and will call them in a couple of hours when they finish lunch.

2/ More information about numbers in each apartment (do they get their own bed? 2 people per room?) etc..
As a standard it is normally rooms of four but will depend on the above.

3/ Coach option? Travelling with students? Collection points/timing etc..
This will largely depend on numbers – let me talk to Ciara about what she wants to do, as this is her remit, and I will get back to you

4/ All other options..
The option pricing on lessons and equipment hire is the same. The only difference is that the lessons are 2.5hour lessons instead of 2 hour lessons, so they receive more tuition. Unfortunately, there is nowhere that lets us, or any other UK tour operators, run mountain meals because the decent is too dangerous. We could however, offer a restaurant meal option if you want?

So not much more info really! Deposit would be £100 though - same as Winter Bash.

Will there be any evening drinks / do's / general aprθs I can crash to say hi and meet some peeps? Trying to widen my boarding friends circle for future hols as most of the people I used to go with are my ex and his mates...

No more details as yet, but there won't be much organised in the evenings as I won't be going. We'll have reps in resort, but it'll be more of a gathering, so feel to hook up.

Dunx won't be going so there won't be any officially sanctioned SCUK events, despite this, you're pretty much guaranteed that there will be debauchery available every night of the week.

Tell me about it!

We met Outgoing at the ski show on Friday and they did say the final info was coming soon. Includes this and the hotel details for the Winter Bash.

We hope to start taking bookings for this by the end of the week.

The delay was caused by somebody on here suggesting Jardin de la Balme wasn't a very good place to stay, so they've taken a while to find alternative group accommodation.

There will be a heap of students in resort at the same time as this trip, again through Outgoing. Whether that's good or bad depends on your PoV I guess Wink It does mean there's some cracking club nights planned if that's your bad and if it's not then you can be pretty certain the slopes will be deserted early in the morning Laughing

Looks like an awesome deal guys, what will be the deal for booking for 2 people since the smallest room seems to be a 4 person studio? When will it be available to book? Sounds ideal for a cheeky week away and some early snow.

Like it that on the http://www.outgoing.co.uk/scuk page it says <i>'Book onto this trip'</i> (like its open already), so I click on that, then on the next page <i>'Book now',</i>(click!) but then it says <i>"Coming Soon. Bookings for this trip will be opening shortly"</i> while above that it says <i>"3 DAYS LEFT TO BOOK. AVAILABILITY: SELLING FAST!"</i> Laughing

Hopefully they'll get it sorted soon.

Incompetence is one thing, but dishonesty is something else. No criticism of SCUK intended, but Outgoing really are a shower Thumbs Down

I'm sure the actual trips will be as good as ever, but the booking hassle is obviously making some people think twice about going.
liggins - Nov 01, 2011 - 09:16 AM
Post subject:
Yeah outgoing do seem to be doing SCUK a bit of a dis-service, must be very frustrating for all involved
BartSimpsonhead - Nov 01, 2011 - 09:57 AM
Post subject:
I doubt they were being dishonest, it's probably more of a case that they're using bits of code from one booking page to build another and haven't got all the details for the SCUK Bash updated yet. The "3 days left to book" has now changed to 17 days, so people have time to book yet...

Still, the booking bit seems to be live now as they're asking for a deposit, so I might have to see if I can book Smile

Update: Still a few bugs in the booking system yet!

Going through the booking process on the Outgoing booking page and their website won't go any further than the 'Extras information' page (I've chosen options and chosen to have no-options and clicking on the proceed button does nothing) - anyone else having problems..?
dunx - Nov 01, 2011 - 04:48 PM
Post subject:
I got as far as paying with no problem, but seeing as I'm not going I didn't go any further.

I have asked them to add the apartment name to their booking form, but good to go I reckon.

dunx - Nov 01, 2011 - 06:47 PM

Just checked again. I get to the credit card page fine. Did you book the other trip on Safari? I can't imagine the code behind the pages is any different between the pages. Any error messages you've not spotted for missing fields?
BartSimpsonhead - Nov 01, 2011 - 07:29 PM
Post subject:
Booked up and paid the deposit with Safari, so I guess they'd not put a final link to the payment page in place when I tried to book.

Oddly, the email confirmation I got back stated :
–––––––––––––––––––––
SCUK Early Bash (7 nights)

<b>Accommodation details:</b>

Nights 1 to 6 - Check-in: 10/12/2011 Check-out: 16/12/2011

Val d'Isere Self Catered Accommodation, Val D'Isere
–––––––––––––––––––––

Er, surely seven nights accommodation would mean checking-in on the 10th and out on the morning of Saturday 17th (not Friday 16th..?)
I've sent an email asking them to clarify the situation. Will keep you posted.

Are the room shares with just scuk or could it be anyone including uni students?

I *think* we're actually in separate apartments as the ones they first suggested we'd heard had previously been given the thumbs down. It was the main reason for the delay in booking.

Where they are actually looks really good to me.

Trying to see if it's cheaper getting a train to London and then going by coach or flying and getting the transfer.

Sorry I've no idea where the coach picks up from, but I shall be flying from Luton as I'm heading around the mountain to stay in Tignes the week after the Early Bash and flying back after that.

Sorry for the inconvenience,"</i>
