Post subject: Sheffield Ski Village now own an Airbag,
SSV have just bought their own Airbag. it will be out at least once a week. probably more often so if your within a few hours of sheffield and fancy having some fun with little pain you know where to head.

Thats Awesome is there an extra charge wheres it going to be setup bellow the main kicker
mini. - Feb 23, 2010 - 09:42 PM
Post subject:
hiya Phil.

at the moment we aint worked out the price so cant answer that one.

the location is to be temporarily at the bottom of the main slope. we have built a kicker to place in front of the bag.

in the next few months there will be some ground works to clear a few trees, built a dedicated run in just for the Airbag.

as soon as the work starts on the dedicated run i will post up some plans.

like a bouncy knuckle on the snowboard cross !!!!

TBH its a great move by SSV imho, as long as its managed properly and maybe with some good coaching too, i may even have a go sometime !

Yeah Really good move by SSV

it's good to see some investment at SSV as last time i went up i was shocked about how badly run down it was on the slope

so i hope it's going to be invested in on the rest of the facilities, ie, replacing worn out snowflex etc as well, rather than just on toys!! (or has it already??)

also i think that they should replace the water jump with an airbag.

Post subject:
the water jump was always a weird idea, it' oop north FFS

but a strange thing to start of with, it's a gimick (no disrespect to airbag companies hahah)

what would attract users is good condition, well maintained slope area

SSV used to be the best dryslope in the country, with progressive features and a kick ass scene, that won't be restored by adding a once a month bouncy castle... whats next a ball pit and climbing frame??
mini. - Feb 24, 2010 - 10:07 AM
Post subject:
already got the ballpit and frame Branny. the new owner reciently build a kids soft play area to keep the little ones happy while the older ones ride.

there is a slow but constant replacement of the snowflex. Robin is trying to replace 10 sections a week. its a nasty job, pulling out hundreds of staples aint easy.

But with around 1000 sections of carpet it will take some time to complete it all so at the moment the priorities are on the most worn out sections.

that's good news mini, it's been a long time coming

here's to a bright future for SSV

i hope people give it the support and look forward to seeing some SSV comps and jam sessions in the future

Can you email me some words/pictures on the airbag, maintenance and event, so we can let people know through the news and newsletter?

We used to get quite a lot from then, but like the slope in general it's dried up over recent years. Should be the best snowflex slope in the UK. Just needs some TLC. I guess the now defunct indoor plans didn't help push future investment though!

I moved from Ayrshire to Beighton in November so I've been itching to get on my board, aside from a trip back up to Scotland I've not been anywhere. Having an airbag near by sounds fantastic although I've never ridden on a dry slope so I dare say it'll be an interesting experience.

On that note, I have two questions: One - is there some sort of clothing you need for a dry slope? All I've ever done has always been on snow and thus in waterproofs.

Two: Is there any long term pricing/season pass type payment scheme. One of the main things keeping me out of Castleford is that Braehead did do a fixed season pass but they don't.

One: Old Pair of boarding trousers they will get damaged and a Hoodie always worked for me. An an old pair of Gloves.

Two: Pretty sure theres a season pass for SSV or there used to be

so so the latest is that we have begun work on the bottom of the dendix for the airbag site, expected delivery is on the 16th of march and we will begin testing pretty much straight away. opening party is scheduled for the weekend of the 20th-21st and we will hopefully be making quite a night of it. Red Bull, monster and othe sponsors are likely to be involved, and it should be quite a weekend..

Right mate thanks for taking the time. Thirty quid sounds fantastic although it does leave me a tad confused as the website says sixty, not that I'm complaing mind, I just can't believe my luck, that's all. Smile

I'll pop in sometime once I'm back from Scotland, which'll be sometime after the 12th, which seems perfect timing really. I can get used to dry slopes just before your Air Bag arrives. Very Happy

So how did opening night go? No one broke it I hope?

What is the deal with the air bag then, is it open only selected nights? I hope it really takes off, a big fair play to SSV for taking the bull by the horns and getting an airbag in!

Right now I'm stood on one of the wooden balcony things watching the Airbag and my first impression is that you could possibly do with a bigger kicker for it. That said I'm just observing, so I've no real feel of the thing. Looks good though.

If I knew who I was looking for I would have. Razz I'm coming early Wed to spend the afternoon, or some of it at least, falling over on this fancy Astroturf looking slope of yours. If you're about then, I'll say hello. Smile

The bag did look fantastic fun though.

Bloody hell Dry Slopes are different. I tried Sheffield today, kept getting stuck on the diamond-thing side, the other side with the water jets and half-pipe was better, I got a few half turns in, but mostly just bottled it. I can see why people say dry slopes are different. I had fun though.
