UK - King of N.O?? Branny - Feb 07, 2010 - 02:41 PM Post subject: King of N.O??
Are many of you following the King of SNOW comp??? http://snow.besttrick.com/
SCUK are the official partner but it looks like the brits aren't really interested as we only have 3 people competing...
i think the comp is a really cool idea, and when i'm back in the UK next year, will hopefully persuade some locals to take part and film on mass every few weeks to get the tricks
any views on why not many people are taking part from the UK??.. is it lack of motivation? advertising? organisation?? perceived skill?? or are the brits just to cool for skool??
I'm just being nosy really..but hey it beats another what board thread
for info the only brits entered are colin andrews, ed (sideshow) C-H and alice Blake ( http://snow.besttrick.com/contest/king- ... 20Kingdom)StevieMcK - Feb 07, 2010 - 02:54 PM Post subject:
I don't know why more folk don't enter it. I usually get roped into filming Colin's trick each week. It gives us an excuse to head up north or hit Braehead. The fact they've changed it this year and posted up a few tricks in advance, lets you get them all done in one session if you need to.
He could be screwed for a wall ride though, unless it dumps next week.
Branny - Feb 07, 2010 - 02:58 PM Post subject:
i agree steve, the tricks up front make it a lot easier to do for those who have to use artificial slopes to lay down the tricks...
you'd better get in your garage and start building a portable wallride sideshow - Feb 07, 2010 - 03:12 PM Post subject:
lol, ive got some crates in the backyard im going 2 try nd get it on :S
not sure how that will go.
im not sure why more brits havent entered, prob cba but its not that much effort tbh.
its good tho, has got me doing new things i prob wouldnt have tried otherwise.
delboy - Feb 07, 2010 - 03:13 PM Post subject: RE: King of N.O??
I think we have enough riders who have enough skill to compete i just dont think we have enough riders who care about competing so i would have to say to cool for skool.
if you read the jenny jones article in issue 88 Whitelines she even admits she entered x games because it was one of her goals she never thought she had a chance of winning but she wanted to prove to herself that she was about more than just backflips, she won the rest as they say is history.
now she is sponsored she is expected to enter comps to keep up her end of the deal but i think even if no one was watching her she would still be doing what she does.
i would say most british riders i have read about have the same attitude towards their own abilities, but thats a good thing right ?
at least it stops them from becoming elitist pricks.
Branny - Feb 07, 2010 - 03:33 PM Post subject: RE: King of N.O??
so is it 2 cool 4 skool... or are the riders who are capable not using SCUK?? so not aware of the comp??
if it is 2 kool... is than not being elitest anyway??
dashie - Feb 07, 2010 - 08:11 PM Post subject: RE: King of N.O??
Its not well advertised really. If you dont go on SCUK the chances are alot of people wouldnt find it. I saw it last yr and the riding was a range from complete crap to brilliant.
Was meaning to enter, had fs 180 and bs180 vids done but then didnt have the net so missed the boat
Branny - Feb 07, 2010 - 08:22 PM Post subject: RE: King of N.O??
agree dashie, they're not as proactive as they could be, a bit more viral marketing maybe?? twitter facebook etc??
i thought last year had great potential, and this year they have improved the format with local leauges and stuff... shame that more aren't representing
dashie - Feb 07, 2010 - 10:01 PM Post subject: RE: King of N.O??
Yeah there's tons of potential for more.
That guy who is leading at the mo has tons of style, his switch bs180 is really nice

I've not entered as been tres busy building new toys for chatham, and when I've been riding I've just wanted to do what I want to do. Plus the tricks are too hard for me charlie - Feb 08, 2010 - 04:04 PM Post subject:
Yeah, it's ok for the earlier rounds and then it gets to the point of having to learn new tricks... HandD - Feb 08, 2010 - 04:24 PM Post subject:
they should do a sideslip round! and a getting off a chair lift round
Branny - Feb 08, 2010 - 05:05 PM Post subject:
hahah and a ollie on the flat round please
learn new tricks charlie..i hope you're not thinking of progressing haha!!
with the new format you don't have to beat the world...just other brits dashie - Feb 08, 2010 - 05:11 PM Post subject:
Thats what brought an abrupt halt to my filming and trying to take part. Front 3's beat me up for about 2 hrs.
We should start our own, as long as it doesnt have gettin up on your heels I should be ok
Branny - Feb 08, 2010 - 05:13 PM Post subject:
as long as heels comes first i'm gonna beat you.... toes is harder dunx - Feb 09, 2010 - 11:24 AM Post subject:
Spencer spent quite some time talking to them this year as I felt that last year, UK based riders didn't stand a chance and UK riders just wouldn't hear about it.
They did make a heap of concessions for the UK based on our discussions. It's another route to getting noticed and a bit of fun.
StevieMcK - Feb 09, 2010 - 11:31 AM Post subject:
So long as you approach it as a bit of fun, then that is the main thing. The UK riders dryslope/dome riders will never be able to compete with the tricks filmed in parks and urban settings abroad. It allows them to do things on a whole different scale. Just look at the winning Front 1 from Round 1.
Branny - Feb 09, 2010 - 11:45 AM Post subject:
agreed, although a lot of the good brits are in the same place as the rest of the euro's...the hoff, tahoe etc so could actually compete on an even playing field......
i think the improvements that Spencer got them to agree do improve the format dunx, which is why it's a shame not more people had a stab at the comp Revert - Feb 18, 2010 - 01:16 PM Post subject:
Hi guys, thought I’d get my end in, so to speak.
I entered the comp last year for a bit of fun, can’t remember what place I reached (mid 20s I think) entered again this year in part as a way to get riding again after a big fall at the end of last season. The format is easier as previously noted and the judgement from the KoS team is certainly more relaxed, (this was evident when a naked dude outside a strip club got his trick accepted.) I had a couple of tricks disallowed last year, I guess the rider’s interpretation of a given trick can vary greatly depending on setting, location and obviously amount of snow. Which we in the UK lack. It also didn’t help getting home from work firing up to the dry slope and trying the get something filmed in the dark.
It’s a shame not more people could have entered, if the UK had 10 or more riders involved we would have had a stab at some prizes within our group, and a bigger pool of UK riders would have been a bigger force to reckon with on the voting front.
I still think there is a bit of work needed on the voting system, there is a lot of tactical votes getting placed within the last hour or so of each trick closing, saying that the top 4 or 5 usually stay fairly close, and we’ve not had any howlers getting through by mistake.
Until this afternoon I thought like last year we had 10 rounds and these next two tricks would round things off, no such luck! Guess I’ll need to man up and pull my 720 out of retirement for one night only.
Finally, for those of you reading this and want to get involved, get yourself a profile, upload a trick (or a bail) and get in about it. The 3 of us currently competing could certainly do with the extra votes. And it will get you in the system ready for next years event.

i'll probably enter next year as so far there has no been anything i couldn't get down! Just not got a filmer at present but could set up my cam on a tripod and leave it.

Didn't want to push it to much as im heading out to France this weekend for a couple of weeks, so fingers crossed i'll get the Front7 sorted off a nice big booter and may even try the Cab9. Fingers crossed I can squeeze into the top 10.
Branny - May 11, 2010 - 06:21 PM Post subject:
