Its also hammering it down with rain all over scotland and super windy so its not gonna take to well just yet.

Sorry to be a buzz kill.

The forecast temps for the resorts are dropping below freezing consistently though, for the first time this season. Hoping to be able to ride over Christmas / New Year myself.

Well I'm in Glenrothes so give us a shout if you wanna lift share up there. I've got the rock board ready and have stocked up on Ptex ready to repair anything the scottish mountains can throw at me

All I've seen in Scotland the past week is pissing rain and gale force rain.

This year I've decided I will get up North though.

Welcome aboard!

I've actually never been boarding in Scotland. you guys recommend it? Seems pretty pricey to me, so surely it's better to just go to the Alps?

As said in every Scotland thread -

When its on its amazing - but planning in advance is really tricky as conditions can change daily.

Riding in Scotland can be really good fun as the terrain is pretty unique - and the views are amazing. There is something special about riding in your own country.

torty - saying that it looks expensive and its easier to go to the alps - you can extend that to saying that the alps look pricey -might as well go to north america.

dashie is now known as buzz killington...

there is something very special riding 40 mins from my parents house on amazing terrain, glen coe is AMAZING... loads of drag lifts all over the place though Sad

how is it expensive? £100 petrol, £30 per night bnb or stay YHA or caravan it they're cheap as in winter and still surprsingly warm! plus you can just wait for the snow and go no booking flights no transfers no cock ups...
I've had some of my best riding days up in mighty scotland.

Ive had more board damage in L2A than in Scotland -
I've had some amazing days, and missed some amazing days riding my local mountains. But even coming up from Stirling it can be hard to pick the right day.

Ok well I was just going on the fact of the ski prices that I saw on some resort websites, they seems to be just as expensive as austria resort prices, plus I would still have to fly up there, since I live in Harpenden (30mins North of London) and ok to be fair I don't know about prices for hotels/ hostels etc. I'm sure it's a lot more convenient if you live up in Scotland for sure. I still would like to board there just for me if I'm going to pay the same as I would if I went to Austria, then personally, I pick austria, but hey, that's just me! Thumbs Up

how much can you get to austria for a weekend away?

scotland is good for calling in work sick and going. If you have to preplan everything then its probably easier as you say to go abroad...

I would agree that Scotland is a bit of a trek from south of the midlands.......

Weardale is good. Been there a couple of times. Thumbs Up

I prefer Yad Moss just up the road tho. It's a bit longer, and not as steep so you seem to get more slope time. There's not a lot between the two mind. And they face different directions, so if one of them hasn't got enough snow then the other one usually has.

I did so last weekend. Booked the flight like a month before and cost about £80. Not sure about flights to Scotland but with transfer to the resort etc it's probably not that different in price for a weekend.

Just to clarify, I'm not dissing Scotland at all, and would definitely like to go sometime.. just not so easy for us southerner Confused

Now I'm depressed, I thought I'd have at least a month before the reality of being forced to move to England would set in. Still, family in Glasgow so it's a trip up to say hello to everyone soon I think.

Went for my first lesson today with a few boys from work. Got there 30mins late as there was a crash. Anyway got there and I just went straight up the dryslope. Wasn't much of a lesson as the instructor didn't pay any attention to my because he was helping my workbuddies who kept falling over. Anyway there was snow on the mountains up north and I look every day and get more nd more excited. Everything I look at seems to be about boarding. Canny wait

Thats why you have to make some Scottish friends that you can easily call upon for a place to crash for a week. A case of beer as a thank you can usually seal the deal Smile

It's certainly do-able Dawsonca! The roads are usually pretty well cleared.

The drive up to the base of the Weardale slope is quite steep in places. But I made it up there last year in my Little Seat Arosa one day without snow-chains or anything. If it's too steep/icy then they recommend you park in the local village and flag a lift up with someone (which is how we ended up with 15people in Geoff's truck!)

Yad Moss is right on one of the more major roads so it's easier to get to. (And a better slope IMHO) Just dig out a space on the verge, park & ride! Very Happy

Check out their websites for more info.

there's an odd situation on the road a mile or so south of yadd moss.

have you ever seen a sign saying welcome to, and then a county name. and on the other side of the road is the one naming the county you just left. and they are never in line! so there is a gap which is either no mans land or belongs to both counties.
well a mile or so south of yad moss is one of those. so. your driving along. well cleared and gritted road. pass one of those areas and there's 100 yards of road that aint cleared/gritted etc.

i got accross it in a little renault kangoo van last year so its easily doable just a read odd thing to see.

Now, a camper van would be awesome for the highlands - cheap accom at a days (or less) notice is hard to come by - just make sure you have lots of friends to share the £££ petrol costs Wink

Went for my second lesson today and it went awsome, I asked for help with linking my turns as i had to keep skipping into them. So he just told me to lean forward and to let the turn do it itself and not to rush the turn. and bloody hell it worked lol i got it and was flying down the slope. I loved it and have accelerated my confidence and ability, just the feeling of being able to carve down the slope at what i would call fast ( but my mate said it wasnt fast ) anyway it was such a good lesson and im considering going up north next week because the slope is closed next week.
I think i am getting much better at a rapid rate because im on my 2nd lesson and am flying down, but however apparently im not leaning forward enough, although i felt comfortable and everything went smooth.
i love snowboarding lol its AWSOME!!!!!!
