Post subject: Questionary about gloves
Hi,
i`am studing sports management at the german sporty university cologne. Therefore i developed a questionary in cooperation with the brand Reusch. And now i need your help. Please take not more than 8-10 minutes time an complete the following questionary:

English version:
http://ofb.msd-media.de/reusch_eng

It would be a big help for me.
Every participant can win one of five pairs Reusch gloves!
If you have questions or helpful notes just contact me.
Thanks a lot!!!!

Marcin,

Its called a 'questionairre' not a questionary. Just thought id let you know since youve also made this mistake on the actual site. Wouldnt want you missing out on participant because of a spelling mistake.

Or German! Hence i was trying to help him out.

Not really sure what your point is? Confused

Post subject: RE: Re: RE: Questionary about gloves
Auslander..meaning foreigner in german........yes

anyway the point is that if you wrote a questionary auf german, it would probably have spelling and gramatical errors in as well (in fact if i wrote an english one it would Very Happy )

the questionnaire is riddled with them but everyone understands what it means so who gives a poop...

as half of this forum is littered with txtspk which i h8, 2 much 2 ask sum1 to change a little bit of poor english is a bit of a cheek

Branny dont be so feckin arrogant mate!

I was helping the guy out since he is clearly German speaking. Evidently he wasnt aware it was a spelling mistake, nor would he know unless someone pointed it out to him. As i quite clearly stated i was letting him know so that he could change it if he wanted to.

Was i criticising him, or calling him stupid? Did i ask or tell him to change it?

NO!

Get off you high horse pal. Evidently i like to try and help people, wheras it would appear your default mode is one of criticism.
Branny - Jul 03, 2009 - 09:32 AM
Post subject: RE: Re: RE: Questionary about gloves
WTF... frikin' bite me!!

all i was stating is that does it really matter as most peoples english questionnaire are riddled with grammatical and spelling errors as are the forums.. it all made sense and it doesn't matter

and yes i've spent 2000 odd posts being negative.. go figure... if your idea of helping people is to tell them they've made mistakes crack on..although surely that's being negative.... in my opinion i was helping, saying that no one (except you) really gives a sh1t that his english isn't perfect
munklefish - Jul 03, 2009 - 09:45 AM
Post subject:
In my experience all my German family and friends are actually VERY interested in learning English correctly and actually greatly appreciate pointers on how to improve. Hence most of them speak English without an accent, and with better grammar AND spelling than most English people i encounter.

Since you are so righteous, you spend a lot of time and effort telling people (and me in this case) that its wrong to be helpful.

Ah! Yes! If indeed we all spent more time criticising others, wasting time telling people not to help others, the world would be such a better place!

Strange philosophy you have Branny.

Ahhhh Munklefish I know some people like to be uber-pedantic but I think you'll find that Questionary is a legitimate word, it's the 'questionary method' that is a form of psychological investigation. So calling it a questionary is common amongst those who use this format regularly.

Just thought you might wanna get the right info before picking fights over the internet. Rolling Eyes

Haha! Honestly? If thats true then, i never knew that despite having 2 Science degrees. Ah well you learn something new everyday. Thanks for the info.

The only people picking fights are those having a go at me for trying to be helpful by letting the orginal poster know his translation was 'potentially wrong.

My German is ok, but i'd much prefer people to let me know if i was saying something wrong. Its the only way im going to learn the language properly(whether thats German or English, or even French or Spanish)

Dude you seem to have totally missed the point again....you were WRONG to call the dude out....he spelt the word correctly....now you're saying "if" it's true??? Like I might have some how been in error myself when I have used these tests myself. What does science have to do with psychology out of interest?

A little humility goes a long way fella...maybe apologising to the Original Poster, maybe apologising to Branny for jumping down his throat?? This forum going nuts of late!!!!

Yellow, the 'questionary' has many spelling mistakes as you would expect since the poster appears to be German speaking. It would have been very pedantic of me to point them all out, nor necessarily helpful. I chose to highlight the word 'questionary' as this was in the title and may result in people not taking the post seriously. Which would be a shame since the guy is trying to do some research.

MY intention was actually to offer the guy an improved translation if hefelt that would be of any help.

With regards to me apparently calling you a liar. I said 'if' because ive never encountered that usage before, hence only have your word for it. Forgive me if you therefore feel its unreasonable of me to not instantly take your word as being gospel until i have confirmation of it being correct. However i did not say it wasnt true.

I have nothing to appologise to the Op for. Because my intentions were sincere. However if he was to contact me to the contrary i would happily clarify my situation with him and appologise if he felt my comment to be unfair.

From my perspective Branny was attacking me for a simple act which was intended to be helpful but has obviously been misunderstood.

Oh well, it has at least amused me and made my own pathetic existence seem slightly more worthwhile by comparison so thanks guys! Very Happy

It was clear he was 'foreign' and that is why i was trying to help him. If he was a native english speaker it wouldnt have been appropriate.

I pointed out 1 mistake becuase i didnt want to appear to be being critical, but helpful. I clearly did a good job of that.

You missed out the bit where you had a go at me for daring to try and be helpful to the guy.

I never said i was of German descent although i do think i and my family / friends are decent. Smile I said i had German family and friends. Hence i know what its like for a German speaking person learning / speaking English. There are some interesting quirks.

My reference to 2 science degrees was because yellow said 'questionary' was a terms used in science. However i had never heard of it used in such a maner before despite being subjected to science based environm, ents for several years as a result of my education. Not that that means it be incorrect, but none the less interesting for me personally as i like to learn new things.

Im not sure that irish relatives are relevant either, but if you are saying my German family and friends aren't relevant when talking about a German speaker, speaking English, then im confused.

P.s. if its of any interest i have irish relatives too, and whilst i didnt do GCSE woodwork i did do GCSE Technology which included a woodwork module amongst other similar modules. But i cant see how thats relatient either.

But since we both have woodworkskills and irish relatives we should probably compare family trees. We might be related with such similarities. Laughing
