The Loop Bar is all geared up for us. I better warn them about the "Desparado issue"!
It's highlighted on the amp on the Bash page.

Duty free at the airport was my plan....
anyone else?

Wine will be cheaper in the Tignes supermarket than in uk duty free!!
tannedstamina - Jan 12, 2009 - 12:35 PM
Post subject: RE: Re: RE: Which Bar?
yeah, duty free only sells the good stuff and within the EU there's not really much of a discount. Tescos probably is the best bet (half price wines) but then I'm not going to have the space for it on the plane.

Few bottles of spirits and as many beers as I can get onto the snow train. I'll still be bankrupt by the end of the trip tho with the beer prices in Tignes

Post subject: RE: Re: RE: Which Bar?
Why would anyone buy booze in the uk and take it out there with them, i know the pound i feck but its still about half the price to buy it in french supermarkets than it is in the uk!!
mini. - Jan 12, 2009 - 01:15 PM
Post subject: RE: Re: RE: Which Bar?
as their is only one Small Spar in Tignes i am guessing that the prices in there are not as competative as the supermarkets in the cities, and i am flying there so my option is. buy in costco at wholesale price in the Uk. or take a chance on the spar in tignes.
if i buy in Costco i at least know my spending is done.

Last year the Supermarket was well cheap, even allowing for the euro change. seriously it was like 30p for a beer if you brought a box!

Post subject: RE: Re: RE: Which Bar?
There are 4 supermarkets in Tignes, unless you're buying imported liquor then the alcohol should be just as cheap as the UK, even with a crap exchange rate. Beer stubbies and wine are generally cheap as chips. I totally wouldn't bother taking alcohol with you unless you only drink Jack Daniels or something.

man, you sure it was 95 octane petrol??

Post subject: RE: Re: RE: Which Bar?
Its cheaper in resort supermarkets than the uk ones!
Does anyone actually think french wine, imported into the uk will be cheaper than when bought in a supermarket a few miles from where it was made?!
tannedstamina - Jan 12, 2009 - 02:00 PM
Post subject: RE: Re: RE: Which Bar?
might be cheaper sometimes when the big supermarkets buy in bulk and sell as a loss-leader! I just know from being in Val last year it wasn't cheap for anything.
but thanks for the tip - will save my pennies for tignes and buy there. If they're only 30p a pop i'll even throw one your way!

You might struggle with cider in France.

As I normally don't drink, whenever I've stayed at the Lodge before the wine they serve with dinner is normally enough to get me half-cut! I hope they get a few extra bottles in

Just a quick not on the booze front - i'll be announcing all the details of the week by Friday (bit later than i hoped but see my post about it) but on the bar front just though i'd let you know that we've got a great exclusive deal with the Loop for all SCUKers on the bash with everyone coming over getting a discount card in their welcome packs (more about that Friday) which will give them seasonaire prices on booze and discount on food at the Loop all week - it'll be our meeting point for the week, quiz night venue, party venue and last night booz & raffle venue (with prizes including a snowboard from the Loop, goodies from Dragon Lodge and our sponsors like Dragon Optical etc) for which all SCUKers will also get one free raffle ticket.
Hope this helps with the current financial situation seriously threatening drinking funds!
The Loop's a great bar too, great staff and owners and they've definitely stepped up to sort us out for this week.

Post subject: RE: booze
not that i'm obsessed with this booze thread or anything but on the beer/cider/lager issue the Loop's got Guiness (if the lodge staff leave you any) and Cider on tap and the local supermarket has plenty of choice from cheap to decent lagers, various beers (from Leffe and Hoegarden to dark beers like Pelforth etc) and even cider (cans and bottles) most of the time - so rest assured booze hounds, you will all be catered for!

Post subject: RE: booze
Haha, cheers John. I shall be pickling myself with wine at dinner in the lodge next week I reckon so my lust for booze won't be so strong the week after!
