Equipment and Media - Dainese impact shorts or Burton/Red ???? bloke1979uk - Mar 23, 2005 - 05:20 PM Post subject: Dainese impact shorts or Burton/Red ????
Ok guys Im looking to buy some impact shorts for next season but cant decide between the Dainese or the Burton/Red shorts.
Granted the Burton/Red are cheaper but does that also mean they are going to offer lesser protection/comfort???
Oh if Dainese are the better whats the differences between the normal shorts and the protector plus shorts?? Is it worth spending that extra £10 ???

I use shorts (a motocross brand). Wouldn't be without them when learning a new trick.
It's my tailbone, rather than my butt, that needs the protection and I'm grateful for it..lol

I've got the Protec ones. Cost me £50 and are great. Wouldn't be without em as they've saved me a few times! Tiberius - Mar 24, 2005 - 01:08 PM Post subject: RE: Dainese impact shorts or Burton/Red ????
This has been kinda done to death...but lairdside is right. Tailbone (coccyx) injuries are a common, and easily avoidable snowboard injury. A bum pad is a cheaper, but still pretty good alternative.

Just about all the riders at the Brits were wearing bumpads of some sort. I have Dainese and I guess I have the Plus as they have the hard coccyx guard. I never ride without them.

The Burton ones I have have removable foam pads, that (so far as I am aware) the Dianese ones don't. What's good about this is that you can choose if you want them all in, or just the hips/arse etc. Plus they have hard plastic inserts for your cozzyx and bum cheeks that you can add or remove. Means I can just put the bum pads in when I am poddling around with the 6 year old (Largely for keeping my arse warm and dry when sitting down than for protection) and put the lot in if I'm in a park. Plus the meshing is a little finer than the dianese ones, and fit's under the rest of your layers nicely.
Easier to wash and don't take 14 months to dry too, plus they might even be microban - can't remember what I bought recently that was, could be these.

i'd go for the burton impact shorts (as according to other posts they are good) and because 'easy rider' (phone them on 01738 451666) have got and end of season sale on and are selling them for £28. and next day delivery s only £6. bargain!
