If you were going for a season to Canada/USA which of the following would you chose and why?
Whistler, Mammoth or Fernie?

im trying to make a similar decision, but im leaning towards banff at the moment...maybe whistler....Decisions decisions!

probably the most predictable response on here (Check out just about every other post i've ever written!) but i'd go for WHistler.
Reasons - Awesome terrain - biggest in North America., Awesome parks, great party town, amazingly beautiful scenery, excellent for extending season into the summer, close to Vancouver, generally excellent place!
To be honest Fernie and Mammoth would both be pretty cool as well, but I'd def go for WHistler

tis true, Fernie gets some epic powder, and it was a rad town when I stayed there, i just feeled theres more variety both on the mountain and in the town on Whistler. THo it depends what kinda town you wanna stay in. If you wanna slice of real Canada, don't stay in Whistler! It's not anything like real towns in Canada, whereas Fernie is definately more authentic. Whistler is awesome tho!
Banff is in Alberta (canada), kinda north of Fernie. It's a separate town, and is also a fun place. Theres three nearby mountains - Norquay, Sunshine Village and Lake Louise. I'd say the only problem is they're all a bus ride away and as far as I know the bus travel isn't included in the season pass and so is another expense.

You're a relative beginner I think. In terms of the riding any resort will satisfy you, so look at the other reasons for going. Cost of living, ease to get to, alternate entertainments, reputation of the type of people who go etc.

one thing about doing a season in the usa you can only get a 3 month holiday visa unless you plan on working. with canada you get a 6 month holiday visa so you can do a full season there.
whistler is only as expensive as you make it. whistler has something for everyone no matter what level you are.

i havnt been to any of the resorts but am currently looking at fernie. cheap, great powder, layed back, full of people who are there to ski, mountain looks good and i'm not really that bothered about lack of park.
only issue i have is that the place is so much smaller than im used to so im scared i'll get bored if the snows crud.... but if its powder all the time i'll be in heaven!
main problem for me with whistler is cost and the fact it will be full of punks which ive had enough of. dont forget, living in a party resort = party atmosphere (it does for me... find it VERY hard to say no) so that adds significantly to the cost!

are you planning on working or just hanging out? fernie gets loads of snow, is laid back, cheaper than whistler, but a shorter season. not much nightlife in fernie, Mammoth is pretty quiet too, more variety in Banff w restaurants, bars, nightlife etc, but not as flash as Whistler. Whistler and Banff have longer seasons, from Banff you can do road trips to Fernie/Golden/Panorama/Revelstoke etc if you want more to do. If you are planning a full season, try to get a place to stay before you go, the hostel sucks for a whole season.
