Hi again,

I have bought a pretty basic board and bindings to start snowboarding. I am going to MK and prices include equipment. Would you use your own so you get use to it for the future or will you use the rented equpiment?

Thanks,
Israel.

Try both, see which you learn on best.

Generally, the advice is not to buy a board until ur good enough to know what u want.

I'd definatly use your own equipment. I did exactly what you did and I'm now upgrading my baisc stuff for more expensive. Just spent as much on new bindings as I did on my orignal board and bindings put together!!

One thing I would definatly recomend is buying your own boots Smile Nothing worse than rented boots, especially if they are still warm

Get your own helmet and boots!! Nothing worse than putting someone elses sweat on your head and feet. I get bad athletes foot fairly regulary would you want to wear a pair of someone elses boots if you knew they have fungus rot!!!!!!! Sad I used hire stuff once and then went out and bought all my own gear. It cost a fair bit but is worth especially if you head out to the real mountains I hate waiting in queues so being able to bypass a hire queue and get your lift pass and head out is fantastic.

Ohhh come on Laughing MK rental definitely isn't that smelly!! They do have hairnets for your head and the boots are put on a drying rack thing, do you think they'd knowingly let people get a disease from their equipment?

Use your own board as you get to know your own equipment , and alot of rental boards have little or no wax on then in busy periods etc ................and you hav a job getting rental techies to change a rental board to your own settings ................

That would probebley be why it's good to use your own gear so you can get used to it surely (flex etc...) Rolling Eyes

take your board etc with you , but go slightly earlier than your lesson time .. ask your instructor if he thinks the equipment you have is suitable for you ... if not then use the rental gear ...

as people in the thread have already said , boots / helmet 1stly own as retail gear for these products even though are user friendly and do the job they aint they have done more milage than a guy on a bike doing the tour de france ... sweat factor 7 and some ?

Try being nice to them and they might, depending how busy they are.

Hey guys,

I went to MK last Sunday and did the full day course. I passed and it feels great. It was better than I thought it would be.

Anyway, I used my own equipment and I can say that it feels good and very easy to control when riding. My friend instead, he used the rental equipment which had a high mileage if you know what I mean.

I am cosidering going this Sunday again for about 2-3 hours early in the morning.

Hope to see you there,
Israel.

The whole reason I bought my own board and boots was so I didn't have to use the rental stuff, the boots never fitted me and were sweaty and the bindings were only screwed to the board with 3 of the 4 screws loosely so they swiveled around.

In my opinion if you enjoy snowboarding and know that you are going to stick with it you should invest in your own stuff.
