hey there,
we (east anglian and surrounding area folk) need your help.
not sure how many of you's will know but SNOASIS is currently going through the works to get approved(or disapproved as the case may be, ugh).
this is the last post on scuk about it when it got stuck back in feb:
http://www.snowboardclub.co.uk/news-greatblakenham.html
It's gonna be a mega indoor entertainment facility with an indoor slope, with bars and restaurants and loads more, i think you get my drift
The closest one for me and my mates is MK and it takes us 3 hours to get there. So we are going mental about helping in any way to get this through.
If you wanna check out the support already and you've got a facebook check out the group "snoasis, snowdome, Bring it on.."
So please help us out and register your interest so that they can see it's a really worthwhile thing to do:
otherwise the site is www.snoasis.co.uk
p.s. i am partial to bribery, so if anyone heads down to MK then I'll buy you a beer in turn for support!!!

Same for me . They were going to build one at the metro centre (gateshead/newcastle) but then they said it was easy for us to get to castleford !!! PFFT .
It's a good 1.30hours for me in car and longer on train

We have it alot easier than the Norfolkites etc have it Newbiwlew - it would kill me to be 3 hours from a snowslope!
Will be great when this place opens as I have family in Spalding (plus the lovely Ace) to stay/drink with respectively!

Post subject: RE: snoasis - please help us
i'll join that group on facebook, If it does go ahead it'll cost a damn sight less petrol for me than driving up to norwich every flamin' week.

Know what you mean - I'm still recovering from going to Tam last weekend - left there at about 2/230am, got back at 530am, played cricket that afternoon - now still totally dead! Despite it being the closest, I haven't actually been to MK for over a year!
It would be awesome to have Snoasis there - would mean that I wouldn't have to kill myself to get on the slopes!

And that's the worst thing getting to MK from Norfolk, past Cambridge there aren't any motorways anyway! Just a crawl through the Cambs and Beds countryside - delightful!

I will happily buy a pint for anyone who can sort out a snowslope for mere mortals on the south coast near brighton we do not have much in the way of slopes. warmwell 2hrs 30, southampton 1hr 30 and a lovely bit of felt called Knockhatch that has gotta be the worst dryslope experience i have eever had. Although the staff were ace. and no sign of snow anywhere.
i moved from the northwest for a job about a year ago (after waiting 5 years for a manchester slope) there i was spoilt for dry and indoor facilitys now im in the dryslope desert of sussex.
Rich people please help by building a lovely slope near me, there is a nice empty patch of hillside at the end of my road that would be spot on.

I'll join the facebook clan. Anything to get a snow dome closer to Kent!!
Shame there are no plans for one this side of the M25, that would make my life much easier
Edit for my dodgy spelling

just looking on google maps - apparently Snoasis would only be 4miles closer to you than MK. There's an interesting fact. And yes I am bored at work!

I get too easily confused with Snowdome, SnoZone and Snoasis!!
How about someone calling theirs 'Winter Fun Land' at least I'd remember that one

thanks for your support guys, and noones even asked for a beer
apart from dirtbirt! but sorry mate i dont think one beer will help you there
it would be so cool if this got the go-ahead but it keeps getting stopped
its also evil when i get home and suddenly realise that the next time i go in a week, or maybe two, maybe three, or maybe even a month (depending on birthdays, money etc) will take another 3 hours to get there, with the awful roads (yes i agree acemcgraw) past cambridge where you experience lorries driving at 40mph and theres no bloody where to overtake!
you go through 4 precious hours of the wonderful white stuff and then experience the roads again with the knowledge that i may not be returning very soon
so thanks again! keep spreading the word!

I take it you guys are going a11-a14-a428-a421 to milton keynes, in which case i'd guess you were getting stuck on the single lane section of the a11, as far as I recall the rest of the journey isnt that bad. I suppose that must be at least a 2 hour drive each way. Arent they planning on making the a11 dual-carriageway all the way now?
ace_mcgraw - May 01, 2008 - 04:44 PM
Post subject:
The worst bit of the journey is actually the A428 bit between Cambs to Bedford, tho that's gradually getting better as they keep dualling bits of it.
To be honest, it's easier, and prob not any difference in driving time to get to Tam from Norwich. The only bit of non-dualing there is on the A11, and as long as you miss traffic on the A14 and M6 you'll be there in about 2.5hrs. I got to Coventry from home in about 2 hrs last week.
And yes, I've heard loads of bits and pieces about dualling the A11 between Barton Mills and Thetford, but i haven't heard weather they're actually gonna ever start or not!
Anyway, I don't mind really, I love the way Norfolk has kinda cut itself off by having crap roads - A47, A17, A11, A12, A140 - it's to keep the rif raf out!

lol, yeah i'd guess it also helps you norfolk-ites 'keep it in the family'
fairy22 - May 02, 2008 - 12:37 PM

yea the a428 bit where its not dual is the worst part by far.
lucky enough im from suffolk

Oi nothing wrong with the Beds countryside
Snowdomes seem to be getting more common so i'm sure in a few years if not sooner they'll start the build!

It's kind of a *mostly* yes
Basically they still have a few concerns about carbon footprint etc, energy consumption. But if Onslow Suffolk can prove they're ok on those points, they'll get the full permission by September or hopefully earlier so work can get started
Been waiting for them to decide something on this for so freaking long it's about time something fairly solid came out. My Neighbour happens to be one of the architects too so I'm being extra nice to try and get any gossip x)

dont see why not it could be part of their "green commitments" to win over the local wildlife campaigners etc.

it's very true - i've been getting upset over recent years as more and more film crews are setting up jibs against living trees
it makes me sad! Trees are there to be hugged!

From what I know so far, there isn't a Park planned, but who knows how much planned will change before they actually get the place built. The estimate is about 4 years to get it built.

Yeah I have a feeling that this place is gonna make xscape seem dead cheap! Also, I do worry a little that if they're gonna be putting holiday chalets and family places in the building, they're not gonna want a bunch of park rats jibbing around! I hope I'm wrong, but I just have a feeling it's gonna be ultra corporate!
Jaded_Parrot - May 15, 2008 - 04:14 PM
Post subject:
Ahhh thats true especially with prices not looking like they are actually going to drop!
yeah was kinda thinking that too Ace sounds quite like a centre parcs wannabe. Natural progression though i suppose.
Snowdome to a snowdome in a shopping/entertainment centre to what could probably be called a resort!
Reoryn - May 19, 2008 - 10:18 AM
Post subject:
There has been talk about it being kinda "Centre Parcsy" - As in it's more like a resort and you pay to go in for the day rather than an hour or 2. I heard £100 being bandied around as a day price. Personally though, I think when it comes down to it they'll open it up to casual entry of a few hours too, otherwise
a) They're missing a massive revenue steam
b) They're alienating the local community... and I'm sure if it was confirmed they were going for the resort only thing, a lot more people around here would turn against it, I know I would.
dunx - May 19, 2008 - 11:07 AM
Post subject:
It's certainly always been planned as a holiday destination, but I can't see them turning aside casual customers, especially as it's also been suggested that it'll be a centre of excellence for winter sports in general.
