Hi. We're off to Chamonix on the 17th April. 3 intermediate snowboarders who won't want to waste any of the 3 days. Any advice on the best areas to make for would be very welcome.

We were riding fresh lines at Flegere all day on Tuesday and Wednesday - conditions are still very good everywhere except Les Houches, though the snow is probably best at Grands Montets. Tuesday was one of hte best days of the season! Blue skies and deep powder.
That's a good deal - also the lift pass is now effectively half price - after 12th April, when you buy a day pas, you get the next day for a Euro. This wil go on until the GM closes on the 11th May.

Chaletlaforet,
Is the Grand Montets suitable for beginners?
I have flights booked into Geneva for 03/05 for a week, and haven't decided on which resort to go to yet, however everyone is telling me to go to Tignes for guaranteed snow... i know its late in the season...
But if Cham is still open and will be sufficient for a week, then the shorter transfer is a big selling point for me.
Situation is my mrs will be a complete beginner and wants to learn to ski, so is the Grand Montets suitable? Or will enough of Cham be open for the mrs to have a good time?
Or do you think i should go to Tignes??
PS. Nice website

The GM is better for beginners than it's often made out to be, but at that point in the season, the nursery slopes at the base will be closed. Flegere will probably still be open, and will be much better for beginners, but will get slushy fast as it's so sunny.
If she was learning to board, I'd say it's a possibility but the blues on the GM really are a bit steep to learn to ski. A pity because the good stuff at the top is incomparable. There's plenty to recommend Chamonix in May (lovely spring scenery in the valley, mountain biking, the end of season parties on the mountains, I love it!) but you need to be reasonably confident to get the best of it.
In all honesty I'd agree - Tignes is probably a better choice. If she wasn't really interested in skiing and just wanted a nice mountain break with a couple of days lessons, I'd say Chamonix, but a week learning in May would be better spent in Tignes, I think.
Thanks for the kind words about the site
Hope this helps and have a good time!

Thanks for the informative response chaletforet aka firebug (snowheads).
Has certainly left me with a dilemma, but a good dilemma!

Not sure where the 18hrs coach ride comes from, shouldn't be as long as that, unless Cham is another 5hrs from Meibel - in which case, bugg3r.
I went Victoria --> Meribel in december, was about 13hrs door to door. Trip wasn't that bad at all.
Few beers, ipod and kip on the coach, no dramas really. If you can go from maidstone or ashford, do so, that shaves a few hours off too.
Lift pass is about £76 for the 3 days or just £38 if you only want 2 days (due to late season offer).
Shame I missed this post earlier, booked already - but oh well see you out there.
